Red's Postgame Presser | Texas

Autry opens with, “There’s no consolation prizes. We had a chance to win the game and we didn’t. That’s on us, that’s on me.”

Autry on late loss: “Rebounding the basketball late in the game, that was big. That was the game. Two put-backs and free throws cost us.”

Autry on second half: “I think it was the first time that we really locked in and played defense. I thought we did a really good job in man-to-man defense. We’ve gotta do it again…it was a step in the right direction.

Autry on late inbound turnover: “I didn’t get a good look at it. Looked like he was wide open, might have stopped running. We had too many turnovers at the wrong time.”

Autry on slow start: “If you watched our first three or four games, we’ve been down. We kept our composure. We had great shots, great looks at the beginning and we just missed them.”

Autry on zone defense: “We work on it. We know Texas is an explosive team. We wanted to give them some different looks. I’m not against the zone. I’m going to do whatever it takes to win. I thought the zone helped us try to win.”

Autry on three point shooting: “I think we’ve got the right guys taking the shots. Chris Bell, JJ Starling. We’ve got the right guys taking the shots and they aren’t making them.”

Autry on free throws: “You’ve got to make them and we’re not. We’re leaving points on the floor, even in the first few games. That was the game. 9/18, that’s too many misses. We have to start making them if we want to win.”

There’s not a single reporter that has balls enough to ask why Bell and Carlos are getting the minutes they are getting
Easy answer: there is no one else better to replace them with. this team as currently constructed has serious limitations. I am hoping Westry gets healthy enough to play and that he can be a fraction of the player he was predicted to be. he could be our point guard substitute.

Well there is since Taylor played over Carlos for much of the second half. Freeman could have played over Bell, assuming he was healthy.

He has a radio show. Call in and ask him. You see, that is your question. Not a bad one either. But these reporters get one question. And they have a different question they want to ask. I didn't hear a bad question. Balls has nothing to do with it. They aren't afraid that Red is going to hit them or yell at them. At least Red didn't blame the fans tonight.

Not true. Have you watched the first 4 games? If you have, you can say that Carlos is better for us than Moore or Taylor? They play the 2 and JJ slides to the 1.

Freeman getting pulled after shooting a 3, but yet Bell who isn’t doing crap gets a pass. I don’t understand that.
Possibly injury related? His fingers were taped in his right hand.

I hope there is a "good" reason like that and if so that he recovers quickly. Otherwise, it looks like Red is facing a very steep learning curve, and HC of Syracuse basketball should not be a learn-on-the-job position. JB did it, but if he accomplished anything, it's delivering the program to another level where that shouldn't be necessary.

Loved the fight from the kids tonight, but the rotations are beyond mind-boggling and cost us the game.

We got back in the game when Lampkin took charge in the paint. He was damn near unstoppable. We stopped him by not giving him the ball. As soon as we tied the game we stopped going to Lampkin. Why?

The majority of the minutes in the second half should have been JJ-Taylor-Freeman-Davis-Lampkin and we would have won the game.
Yes. Putting Carlos back in was a mistake. Why change the momentum of the guys doing it?

That was a repeat of the previous game no mention of injury in that game.
Other reason could be defense. We also made our big comeback with him off the court. Honestly was fine with Davis out there aside from the damn foul shooting. He is quality on the boards and solid overall on defense

Taylor basically had zeros across the board in 19 minutes, that’s bad. And it’s criminal that Freeman only played 15 minutes
If you watched the game, you would understand that Taylor was the reason Johnson went 4/18, he played his role to perfection; we dont need him taking many shots. Also, Jyare was clearly so much more valuable in a game where every possession matters so much. Donnie isnt ready for that YET and thats okay because we recurited experience behind him.

We did go once and he was point blank and got blocked.

What I don't get is, he has no problem with playing these defensive zeros 30+ minutes over the past two years, and then out most talented players with the most athletic size is planted. It makes no sense, Donnie can't be happy, especially after seeing Bell play the way he does. It's beyond awful.
