Red's Postgame Presser | Texas

I was surprised that after Eddie Lampkin’s assist to JJ for a layup, Eddie didn’t see the ball again and that was with 3 minutes 18 sec left in the game and the score SU 61-Texas 60. I thought we’d run it through Eddie again sometime but it never happened. I can understand why he was subbed out with 15 seconds left in the game and down 65-68 since we needed a 3 but not to see the ball at all in those last 3 minutes before being subbed out, was disappointing, at least to me it was. He was making excellent decisions passing and moving the ball.

Easy answer: there is no one else better to replace them with. this team as currently constructed has serious limitations. I am hoping Westry gets healthy enough to play and that he can be a fraction of the player he was predicted to be. he could be our point guard substitute.

I don’t agree I believe Moore is just as good and Taylor can play at a high level. They have some good competition.
Moores stroke is the best I’ve seen in a long time on the team. Natural easy fluid boom he’s big time scorer needs minutes.

It was great seeing Melo and Kiyan cheering the team on. Ok let’s leave Brooklyn by beating at least one Texas team. Was proud of the team’s effort on defense this game, I admit that I was really worried how we’d fare.

They were trying but Texas sealed off the entry passes well and we're terrible at passing into him.

What I don't get is, he has no problem with playing these defensive zeros 30+ minutes over the past two years, and then out most talented players with the most athletic size is planted. It makes no sense, Donnie can't be happy, especially after seeing Bell play the way he does. It's beyond awful.
Your second to last sentence is one that I always think about. Someone not playing watching someone play the wrong way night after night...human nature kicks in with " this".

There’s not a single reporter that has balls enough to ask why Bell and Carlos are getting the minutes they are getting
For all of Bell’s shortcomings, his shooting ability is elite.

Carlos, on the other hand, simply ain’t cutting it - players his size usually need elite quickness to succeed and he doesn’t have that. The team looked markedly better with JJ running point (even if it’s not his ideal position). I think Choppa or Taylor should be starting at this point.

You realize his shortcomings negate literally everything he is "elite" at.

He's elite when the opposing head coach doesn't do their homework.

Poor coaching. Red should have demanded the ball go to Lampkin period

Freeman getting pulled after shooting a 3, but yet Bell who isn’t doing crap gets a pass. I don’t understand that.

Pull him, explain to him why it’s not a good shot, and then put him back in. Or leave him in and explain it during a TV timeout why it’s not a good shot and if he does it again he’ll sit.

People want the kid to play inside out and getting him to do that is squarely on the coaches

Not true. Have you watched the first 4 games? If you have, you can say that Carlos is better for us than Moore or Taylor? They play the 2 and JJ slides to the 1.
They all played pretty poorly in extended minutes, except for Taylor’s defense.

Carlos is clearly struggling with the step up in competition, but I also think at least half of his struggles are mental. He missed 8 free throws in 74 total attempts last year at Hofstra. For us he is 5-10. His confidence is completely shot.

Being 1 for 7 from 3 is one thing...we knew he could struggle from 3

3 for 13 from 2 is unplayable. I was concerned with his eFG% at Hofstra being under 500...so far, looks valid.

I sure as hell hope he doesn’t read this board.
