Red's Postgame Presser | Youngstown St

Takeaways from my chats with the guys + Coach Autry's postgame:- When asked what they've learned about this team and can take into the Legends Classic, most of the guys on talked about the ability to fight through adversity and never back down.

- Elijah Moore says the work he puts in prepares him to play in big moments like OT. When asked if he's surprised himself at all with his passing or defense, he said no and pointed to the work he puts in once again.

- JJ Starling credited taking what the defense gave him... For his increased trips to the foul line later in the game.

- Donnie Freeman, when asked about him and JJ scoring the team's first 20ish points in the second half, said he wouldn't refer to it as "carrying" the offense and shouted out others who scored later on

- Eddie Lampkin, when asked how Syracuse can improve its defense in the paint, said it's all about talking and communication. When asked about the flurry of celebrations late in the game, the center says that's just him, and didn't point to any added emotion

- Adrian Autry really wanted to give his guys credit after the game for battling that one out. He acknowledged that there are tons of improvements to make. But also loved the fight from his guys. Made it clear that was the JJ Starling the team needs, and was very proud of the freshmen

Reds such a great dude. I’m glad he’s in charge
I think he’s a great dude too. I also thought JAB was a cranky SOB

Weird how one won and the other could be gone by next year.

At some point this year do we hear music during a game with the announcer screaming OMG that is JB's music! With JB running out of the tunnel and saving the season?

Only in the minds of certain fans that are hoping so. Ironically the same group that knows little to nothing about hoops
Only in the minds of fans who want success. The orange colored glasses people wear on top of the alternate reality that people live is pretty fascinating. This team needed 2 overtime’s to beat Youngstown state, a team Ohio state beat by 40! They needed a player to fall on his final drive to beat Colgate, a team Drexel beat by 17! They sweat it out against le moyne, a team that lost to cal state northridge by 20!

This is not unreasonable fans being unreasonable, this rationale fans looking at a crap product and worrying that we are holding onto a dud because hes gotten a couple recruits despite that fact that he hasn’t shown any ability to coach

It doesn't matter what kind of fan you are. Red will be coaching SU next year.

Did he mention anything about McLeod? Surely there were a few minutes yesterday when the other teams immobile 7footer was in that Naheem could/should have gone in?

Exactly. I logged in just so I could post something about McLeod, and Westry. The reporters don’t ask the hard questions.

The previous two games Autry was asked about McLeod and he said that they had smaller guys playing the center position that were quicker. This guy was huge and the McLeod was still on the bench.

Also, let’s be honest about Carlos. He’s not an ACC caliber point guard, they need to do something like either move starling to the point guard and put Moore into the two guard position. I’m guessing that Carlos will continue to start because Autry seems loyal, as he had Taylor start the entire season last year. If chance Wester is available, if you can’t get minutes in a double overtime game, I don’t know what’s going on.

I don’t think chance plays a minute this year.

Red won 20 games last year with JBs spare parts and crappy chemistry. He’s got a brand new squad this year that he’s trying to figure out how to play together. He’s got a Top 5 class next year. There’s zero chance he’s not here next year.

I blame this on 1 individual, the rest was left to clean and we will. It is like talking to some with absolutely no insight or knowledge if others cannot see it. 20 wins last year a miracle, however that team has a ton more talent IMO. Might be a long year, will have nothing to do with Red! I hope you are not rebulilding I-81, the crew might leave

It seems Chance is like Yeti or Bigfoot. Lots of claims, a few purported pictures, but no actual live appearances.
Westry had about 20 family members there yesterday in Section 124. He pulled off warm up top at one point when Red went over and talked to him on the bench. I would thank that, as reported, he is close to getting a few minutes. No idea what to expect from him when the time comes, but it will come.

There’s no correlation between likability and production of results. In my experience some of the most likable people produce the poorest results.
