Every thread devolves into placing some blame elsewhere. The only question that really matters is Autry a good coach or even a mediocre coach? If your answer is yes then please share the things you believe he does well.

For transparency, I think he is not a good coach and is in the bottom tier of coaches we see patrolling the major conference sidelines. His best quality appears to be recruiting at the high school level. However, if we view that as a strength then his coaching and developmental ability would be deemed as a negative as the talent does not translate into results.

Frustrated with another wasted season but Go Cuse!

I see no evidence that Red is up to the job.

He couldn’t coach a wet dog in from the rain.

Agreed; he is not the guy.

what specifically does he do or not do that informs people to say he isn’t? The only two things I can speak on are his substitution patterns at times make no sense and he waits too long to call TO when the other team goes on a run. We don’t know how he’s coaching behind the scenes .

In the end, if he doesn’t reach the tournament, he’ll be fired and you all will be happy. The stupid thing here is, if we shot free throws at even a 67% clip, we would have 2, maybe even 1 loss right now. Autry would be considered doing a very good job. I guess you can have the opinion that free throws are on the coach as many here do. I tend to blame the players for missed free throws……but that’s just me.

These guys didn’t shoot FTs that poorly before so what’s the variable that has changed?

I know this is a message board and don’t want to discourage discussion, but how much more can we beat this dead horse?

Regardless of how we got to this point, all signs are showing Red is not the man for the job, but will get the rest of the season. When he doesn’t make (and, apparently, win a game in) the NCAA tournament, he will be let go and the search begins for a new coach.

Going to be a long 2 1/2 month wait for the inevitable.

What I’ve seen on the court demonstrates that he is a sub-par ‘patroller of side”lines.’ I am encouraged by how the defense was so markedly improved (before the last two games), but I see that as less due to coaching and more related to the significant upgrade in athleticism, but I do credit the staff for the energy and commitment to D that they showed.

I just read that ‘the players love him,’ so he’s good at the relationship thing? But then when the players leave, they mock us on social media? So, maybe he’s a bad breaker-upper? Shouldn’t call a kid “big head” on his way out, I guess.

The offense speaks for itself. How is that not a reflection on his coaching?

Getting him fired means nothing if we don’t find the right guy to take over.

Lol have you watched our offense all season, specifically our “zone offense” yest?

I think you see all these other reasons or blame being talked about because everyone takes for granted that he is a subpar coach. There’s not much worth talking about on that front.

Is anybody worried about a school poaching Autry??????? There’s your answer.

Don’t blame Autry for his failures as SU mens basketball program.

The blame for Autry’s failures and the program’s decline rests solely upon the shoulders of the knuckleheads that hired him.

Why the heck would the SU braintrust hire someone who did not have any head coaching experience to take over SU’s national billboard program?

I can give you a long list of former assistants coaches who lacked head coaching experience that failed when they took over a top men’s basketball program.

Yep, Autry was a good recruiter for Boeheim but being a recruiter (a/k/a “salesperson”) is different from the duties as the men’s head coach.

Autry has failed. Terminate him at the end of the season. Hire a 45+/- year old who has distinguished himself as the head coach at a mid major.

Autry’s buyout, should he want to take another job, is about a tree fiddy. As in $3.50.

Years 1 and 2 both the D and O stunk... this year the D is much better, but I would argue it's because of better players more so than better coaching, but I'll give Autry credit, they know what they want to do and are committed to it. The O is a trainwreck... maybe next year the offense is better?

I think Autry could be a good coach, but it's clear that he is learning on the job. For better or for worse, it seems like Autry will run out of time before he evolves to becoming a good coach.

I don't think anyone is happy about an all-time Cuse great needing to be terminated. Even if the FTs weren't an issue, all of the issues that have drawn complaints the last few years are still present. The in-game coaching is abysmal, the team is undisciplined, the offense is a mess, etc. The only real difference this year is the gigantic talent upgrade... which may not make much of a difference in the end.
