one of the arguements against a college football playoff was that it would make the regular season games meaningless just like the basketball the regular season. Exhibit A was that little hoop game today in the dome showing just how bogus that arguement is. So psyched that they'll be a new system soon and still can't sleep after that momentous hoop game.

...everyone said that Syracuse was a small private school in the middle of nowhere and was worthless in conference realignment. Well, in year one, we finished in the upper half of our division, won a bowl, are the current #2 ranked lacrosse team, and are the #1 basketball team in the land. Oh yeah, we also have one of the most profitable athletic programs in the ACC.

...and this is just year one.

SU is a national brand that playing well across the board. Like K said, this is a merger, between SU and the ACC, a merger implies equals. He didn't say acquisition.

That might be an exaggeration, but grafting SU, Louisville, ND, and Pitt to the ACC brings the four best run and best brand schools from the BE.

Who said that?!

SU was always one of the most attractive schools in realignment.

The graft/gentlemen agreements from the bowls were the thing that stopped any playoff.

For starters, you can pretty much pick a Rutgers/WVU/UConn fan at random as an answer to your question.

I guess I exaggerated when I said "everyone," but it sure felt like it at times.

OK, so by "everyone" you meant "knucklehead fans terrified of being left behind".

Anyone with half a brain in their head knew SU was highly valued. It's why the ACC wanted us a decade ago, and why the B1G considered us as well.

Yeah... I'm pretty sold on Syracuse lol That's why I went there. It's a great place. And no, it was more than just those terrified of being left behind. In addition to the previously mentioned folks here in the Northeast, there were a lot of *special* individuals in the Midwest, Southwest, and Southeast who either felt that Syracuse was irrelevant, or that northern expansion was a bad idea.

I guess by "everyone," I meant a bunch of knuckleheads. That might not sound like a lot of people, but look at an electoral map. I assure you they comprise half the country. couchburn

I'll say it more clearly... What random fans, bloggers, tweeters and posters thought was 100% irrelevant. The people that matter -- athletic directors, college Presidents, marketing consultants -- all valued Syracuse extremely highly. The ACC has been trying to get us into their conference for more than a decade. We were never, ever "irrelevant" to the people that matter.

Good G*d man.
Do your Sunday evening plans involve telling Coach Mac that SU football has a rich history, and Jimmy B that Syracuse basketball is a big deal?
