I posted this in the thread below but I didn't want it to get lost if possible. Arne Duncan - you've made me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
Let's look at our senior classes for the last several years
10-11 Rick Jackson graduated
09-10 Andy Rautins and Arinze Onuaku both graduated
08-09 Kristof Ongenaet - pretty sure he graduated but not 100%
07-08 Josh Wright - that's a miss
06-07 Demetris Nichols and Matt Gorman both graduated. Pretty sure that Terrence Roberts and Darryl Watkins did as well but if somebody could confirm that would be great
05-06 GMac graduated
04-05 Craig Forth obviously graduated and so did Hakim Warrick. I am almost positive that Josh Pace did as well but not 100%
03-04 I am pretty sure Jeremy McNeil graduated
02-03 Kueth Duany graduated.
Before that, we had Ryan Blackwell, Jason Hart, Etan Thomas. Marius Janulis, JB Reafsnyder and any any number of guys that were at Syracuse all four years leave with their degrees. Of those that did not, Paul Harris, Carmelo, Eric Devendorf, Jonny Flynn and Donte Green among others are all playing professionally so it's not like they are living on the street and not contributing to society. And I'm sure if they wanted to return to get their degree after their playing days are over, the door is open. Bottom line in recent years, if players stay for all 4 years on the Hill, there is a pretty damn good chance they are going to leave with a degree. Sure there are going to be some misses but so does the general student population! I am not a Syracuse grad but I love Syracuse more than my own alma mater to be honest. Hey Arne, can I have your secretary's phone number? I'd like to make any appointment to come up to Washington DC so you can kiss my ass!

In addition to all of those numbers, the walkon's count for graduation. We have at least three this year and many more through your breakdown. A few players have been bad students and left, most others went to the pros or stayed. I wouldn't have thought we'd be in trouble at all... The Flynn, Devo, Harris, Josh and Dayshawn Wright, and Melo's have obviously hurt us worse than I imagines.

If a kid gets pissed and leaves school, is that really JB's fault? Bad apples are everywhere, and someone who drops out of SU would drop out of most schools. Sometimes it's hard to judge how good of a student will be in college because most high schools are a complete joke.

Thanks Cherie. After I posted this. I found a Daily Orange article about their senior day that confirmed as well.

I know how this board hates political statements in backetball threads, but what exactly does the Dept. of Education do other than make education harder and more expensive?

I mean, since it was invented in what 1970 we went from First in the world to like 50th?

I think the NCAA would argue that you shouldn't have offered that athlete a scholarship if he was a bad apple. No, you can never know for sure how someone will turn out, but I think that is why the threshold is around 50 % instead of 100%. Basically, the NCAA is stating a coach should be able to get it right 50% of the time.

I don't think this is too much to ask, though I may argue that exceptions should be made for those who leave early to play in the NBA. As Boeheim said, Harvard wasn't penalized when Bill Gates (or Mark Zuckerberg for that matter) left early.

And let's not forget that Scoop has already graduated and KJo is expected to get his degree this year.

Harris, Devendorf, Flynn and Green specifically contributed to last year's poor APR, which doesn't have any bearing on our eligibility this year or going forward. The only APR concern we have looking ahead to 2014 is Melo and Dion.

Yes Scoop and Kris are both going to graduate this year.

Devo was one of those guys who came back after leaving school to complete degree requirements IIRC.

I wasn't 100% sure about Eric Devendorf . I could remember hearing both ways about him. Probably shouldn't have posted until I had the facts 100% confirmed but I was a little fired up :)
