Restore 44 : Dontae Strickland says it has been discussed

Everybody on both teams wears 44 for a game?

That's what I thought of when I read that too lol. Honestly not sure what to take away from what he sent me. Doesn't really sound like they want to bring it back full-time, but maybe have a player where it as an honor for a special game or something.

One of the points of my e-mail was that the #44 can be used as sort of a symbol of where the football program used to be and where we want to get back to, and I used Michigan and USC as two examples of using legendary numbers as an honor (#98 and #55 respectively).

Don't get me started on people thinking Csonka wore 44...ill end up fighting about how nunes magician is a joke.
Csonka can have a 44 jersey retired the day james Mungro gets his girls field hockey jersey retired.

I'm still waiting for my #44 hockey jersey going to the rafters in Tennity.

if brown and little agree to be on a committee to decide whether the 44 should come back, they've already made up their minds and the only stumbling block is the goofball AD who needs to just do it already

we all knew it was a joke and that eventually the next AD would come to his senses

I just started another thread on this kind of. Take down the big one, and put up one for each of brown Davis and little. Done

Don't forget Harold Gayden.

In basketball, triche wore Douglas' 20, Wes wore rony's 4, josh wright wore 30 etc etc.

I didn't know that Derek Brower's number was retired.

That right there is funny, I don't care who you are.

What makes it even funnier is when you do an internet search for Derek Brower Syracuse and go to images, which I did to hopefully attach a photo to my comment, this is what came up:

I couldn't tell you when, but I seem to recall a game where Brower hit a three. Place went Apeshit.

I think what he's trying to say is that every team in college football will be required to retire #44.

You don't give a kid 44 that hasnt proven anything on the field yet. Promising it to a recruit is foolish.

But seriously...is that not EXACTLY what we've always done with it? Rob Konrad got 44 before he ever set foot on a field.

Yeah - we'd never do that!

(Wait, you say we've always done that. Are you sure? Okay, I'll let him know.)

Was Konrad a 5 star recruit? Was he a cant miss prospect? I mean I MAY be inclined to give it to a top 10 kid nation wide, but even that has its flaws. I mean what if we gave it to the Rutgers RB that chose RU over Bama and proceeded to do absolutley nothing for 4 years there. He just transferred this winter.

You're acting like this has never happened before. Look at the last 6 people to wear 44:

Rob Konrad
Terry Richardson
Michael Owens
Glenn Moore
Mandel Robinson
Richard Panczyszyn

Let's not start rewriting history and act like it hasn't been used similarly to what a lot of us are proposing right now.

I kind of like the thought of awarding it to someone deserving of the honor, from on field accomplishments and off the field contributions to the community etc. isn't that like what Michigan does with 98?

That being said, I have no objection to the old way either. I just think it should be active, either way.
