RG3 deserves better.
If you have the choice between a guy who's a dropback passer and a guy who's an option QB in the NFL, you take the dropback passer. RG3 is currently both, which means Shanahan needs to make him a dropback passer PDQ. All of this pistol option offense stuff needs to cease right now. He is too good for it. Consider:
1.) He tied Brady for the lowest interception percentage in the NFL (1.3%). Chew on that. One of the most inexperienced QBs in the league is as savvy as the wiliest QB in the league.
2.) RG3 throws good passes, not bad passes. He threw 15 more TDs than interceptions. Montana only managed to do that three times in 15 years. Marino managed to do it twice in 17 years.
3.) Whatever passing efficency means, it means RG3. His passer rating was third in the NFL behind only SB45 MVP Aaron rodgers and SB41 MVP Peyton Manning. Those also are the only guys who completed more passes than RG3. RG3 completed 65.6 percent of his passes.
4.) On Sunday, RGIII threw 2 TD passes in his only quarter of semi-healthy football against the best defense in the NFL. The Seahawks led the NFL in scoring defense by allowing less than 16 points per game.
Just wait until this guy learns NFL offenses. RG3 had no playbook at Baylor, which means he was a total stranger to the intracies of football. What we saw in 2012 is what he accomplishes when he's largely unschooled. Just wait until the guy with the 3.8GPA has a chance to really immerse himself in the ways of football.
If you have Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, Vince Young or the like, you run the option in the NFL. Their running will open up passing opportunities, which they are competent enough to redeem. But RG3 can develop into a Brady, a Rodgers, a Brees, a Peyton. And he can be like those guys for 10+ years if he doesn't get hurt running the pistol. Nobody loves the option more than I but this guy deserves better.
