Not only do they have two guys they think can start, they also have another guy behind them that they think could maybe push to start this year as a true freshman.

If not, for sure as a sophomore and IF either Collins or Williams transfer they already have a second guy lined up for a competition to develop.

Honestly, what Fran is building is remarkable. But some unfortunately don’t have the patience to see it

What people are glossing over when they say "bring in more competition" is the players that we are developing get discouraged because they aren't playing and then transfer out. At some point, you need to let the kids play and see what they have.

Yea who wants to go 8-4 if that means more offseason hustling. I think it’s crazy to base any strategy on players sticking around for multiple seasons. Try to assemble the best possible roster year in year out and if they want to run it back then it’s a bonus.

Can we expect either to be McCord? No. Why can’t we expect them to be good/great?

LaNorris Sellers was a RFr this past season and he’s going to enter 2025 as a legit heisman hopeful.

Why can’t RC or JW have a similar year to what Sellers & SC did this year? I believe in Jeff Nixon and he’s got 8 months to get these guys ready

SU's track record of relying on QBs developed within their system has not been stellar. The QBs that do pan out are either concussed or walking on peg legs 6 games into a season.

Either way, I feel we're putting too much on the QB/offense next season when all hands should be on deck to plug huge holes on defense. I'm much more concerned on that side of the ball and the lack of impact transfer interest.

So many posts on this board with dire predictions, I understand the scope of the 25 schedule, but nobody here knows how good any of the three QBs are going to be. Nor do we know if we can improve the Defense. There are too many variables right now, have to rely on the staff . They’ve been good pretty damn good to this point .

We CAN have a successful year with merely adequate QB play but that requires an effective running game and a stout defense. See Freeney 2001. We don't have anything close to that D as of now. That's the problem.

Eventually, most players will not benefit from moving from team to team annually. Teams will not likely pay much for backups and practice squad players, just token amounts if anything. The money will mainly focus on the stars and starters. Also, moving constantly requires adjusting to new schemes, playbooks, players and relationships. Right now the money is a huge factor, once things stabilize, the money is not likely to be good enough except for elite players.

agreed. What Fran is on record is that he wants transfers that have more than one year to play
He wants them if he thinks they can start.
He wants them to buy into DART our culture.

As long as he can find players that fit what he wants i believe he will bring them in. Last year was a one off. He had to jump start the program. Not so much this year.
I 100% want the SU player budget going to existing players. Going to retention.
I believe that is exactly what we are doing, and it is the only approach that is sustainable.

That effective running game and stout defense of 2001 came after 7-5 and 6-5 campaigns and featured a senior running back and a defense in their third season under the same coordinator. It's not like they did it the year after McNabb graduated.

Respect your opinion but I have to disagree on equilibrium being restored. If anything things are getting worse. We now have mid to low end B10 playing high stakes in the NIL game along with the entire SEC and even a handful or more of ACC teams. There were a handful of top programs with a $20M + roster. There had to be at least 20-25 with $8M or more and some schools you wouldn’t expect. Unless some sort of oversight committee comes along and enforces a salary cap, which is basically impossible, the salaries for the rosters will only increase as the media contract $ widens each season. Right now there is the same 20-30 programs who eat up all the top transfers, recruits, and have a realistic shot at making the playoffs.

How Syracuse is managing their roster is how they have to, not how they would want to. People can’t say that some of the potential transfers we brought in at positions of need wouldn’t have been a welcome addition. We just can’t compete in the NIL game so we do it by roster retention. That’s good and all but if we’re being honest with ourselves that’s not a recipe for sustained success. Right now it’s not a fair playing field when certain programs have the ability to pay for a plug and play transfer at a critical position and the other has to try and do it with player development.
