Did we even bring anyone in after last spring practice? I could be wrong but i seem to recall the roster being pretty much set. You would want new players to the program to go through spring practice so they’re ready to go come fall. Sure there may be 1 or 2 pick ups but most of that will be done beforehand.I disagree, I find it perfectly unnonsensical. There will be plenty of good players within our price range in the spring.
Clarence Lewis and Savion Washington were added in April. Might have been another player or two but those are two I remember for sure.Did we even bring anyone in after last spring practice? and JRS. So three examples that disprove the theory that folks keep whining about.Clarence Lewis and Savion Washington were added in April. Might have been another player or two but those are two I remember for sure.
SU's track record of relying on QBs developed within their system has not been stellar. The QBs that do pan out are either concussed or walking on peg legs 6 games into a season.
Either way, I feel we're putting too much on the QB/offense next season when all hands should be on deck to plug huge holes on defense. I'm much more concerned on that side of the ball and the lack of impact transfer interest.
That seems to better state what you meant. But what you had said was because Dino and others couldn’t do it, Fran can’t do it. It’s more than Fran though. Nunzio and Nixon have a part also. Sometimes it does come down to trust on the fan’s part because that’s pretty much all we can do if the pieces are somewhat in place. It’s no different than people saying to trust Fran - he knows what he’s doing. The truth is we really don’t know yet. He’s not bringing in McCord 2.0 so it remains to be seen if this new strategy will work.

Well said. I think it’s fair to be a skeptic about his approach, but we have nothing to suggest that the approach to roster building we’re taking isn’t what Fran Brown wants and is out of desperation. So I’m taking the approach of trusting the head coach who went 10-3 in year 1 and is upset that we didn’t do better and won a national championship until we see or hear otherwise that things aren’t going as planned. It’s remarkable really
Fran Brown goes out and wins 10 games his first season.
Brings in two awesome HS classes (I think many are forgetting how well he did on a short clock with that 24 class) and yet people are out here saying we’re in trouble etc etc etc
We’re not in trouble, we hardly lost any guys to the portal, something that’s unheard of in this day and age. We’re building a program.
If we go through spring ball and think we need some veteran help, we will make the adds.
But again, Fran Brown is very confident in this team that he has built.
These people that are whining need to realize this is a night and day culture shift.
Yeah, I don't understand why people are panicking. Wildhack has proven he doesn't have a quick trigger, and Fran built himself a lot of equity for taking a team with a solid core and enhancing its performance from the year before. There's nothing about Fran's position that suggests he needs to make short-term decisions. We’re not in trouble, we hardly lost any guys to the portal, something that’s unheard of in this day and age. I don't think anyone is saying we're in any long term trouble, it's recognizing the main reasons we were 10-3 has left the program Kyle and Lequint, and 5 top experienced defensive players on a very poor defense are gone too. That very margin of error is shrinking with some gaps in talent between the Srs who left and the FR-SO recruited over last 2 years. We obviously have some holes and hoped they were filled in previous portal opening. We'll see. It's ok to be concerned and it's ok to think Fran will do his best to fill those holes. It’s remarkable really

Jr no disrespect as I’m not trying to wine, just saying if we are fighting for a championship then right now we don’t have the kids to do it especially against this schedule. Now in spring he may do what I want for team and with a few small additions we have a chance but if not it will be rough. I see the big dogs and Ohio st would beat us bye 30 minimum this year because we don’t have the defense. Our o is really good but our defense isn’t and everyone knows it. We need help. All I’m saying and not crapping on team just really being honest. It’s remarkable really

We’re not disappointed- just very concerned about whether Fran is abandoning the portal and putting too much faith in the younger guys. We’ve lost the core of what got us to 10 wins without seeing obvious replacements.I find it amusing that after decades of being rather...poor, we all of a sudden we are disappointed that coming into this year we aren't fighting for a championship with this year's coming roster.
When did we become Michigan?
I don't think anyone would disagree here and if they do they are drinking too much short term Fran kool aid nor is it a knock on Fran as a HC. Tough spot to be in for next year and somebody has to take a long term approach when looking at the programJr no disrespect as I’m not trying to wine, just saying if we are fighting for a championship then right now we don’t have the kids to do it especially against this schedule. He's not abandoning the portal. He's signed guys from the portal. Fran's doing exactly what he said he was going to do this year, focus less on the portal and more on the high school recruits. Now, you might not agree with this strategy, or feel it's the best way to build the team, but it's what our coach feels is best for the team. We’re not disappointed- just very concerned about whether Fran is abandoning the portal and putting too much faith in the younger guys. We’ve lost the core of what got us to 10 wins without seeing obvious replacements.
Younger guys not playing in 2024 does not automatically mean they’re not good. We’re not disappointed- just very concerned about whether Fran is abandoning the portal and putting too much faith in the younger guys. We’ve lost the core of what got us to 10 wins without seeing obvious replacements.

It's not just THAT. It's also that our opponents and peer teams are bringing in good classes AND supplementing with the portal. We’re not disappointed- just very concerned about whether Fran is abandoning the portal and putting too much faith in the younger guys. You ignore people that have different opinions or have some fact-based pessimism? Especially when most pessimists still WANT the same result as the optimists. It's amazing isn't it? I have a good list of Ignores I can send to you.
I say again - if fans think this is a sprint instead of a marathon, that's on them. It's not just THAT. It's also that our opponents and peer teams are bringing in good classes AND supplementing with the portal.
If you just look at recruits... we travel to 4 of the top 5 ACC recruiting classes next year (only FSU at #3 is not on our schedule). We are #9. And Tennessee and Notre Dame had better classes than any of those 5. And rest assured that most of those programs had better recruiting classes (other than SMU) the past several years. It is not like we brought in the top 10 classes this year and last.
But that is just our 6 road/neutral games. It's not like Pitt/BC/Duke/UNC are just standing around. All four of those teams are trying to get better also.
I think a few portal additions on each side of the ball, addressing obvious weaknesses (rather than adding to WR depth), would go a long way to giving fans some reason for hope.
Next year? Who cares about next year? We could all be dead. Also, it makes perfect sense to wait till Spring, THIS YEAR, when you think you have players who can fill the roles.Apparently you don’t understand. There won’t even be a spring window next year. Also, waiting to see what happens after the Spring on purpose is just non-sensical.
It's that every single thread gets hijacked by you and other doomsayers. We get it - you don't like the way the staff is approaching it. Jumping in multiple threads to say "we need position X, Y, Z" is incredibly annoying because it's been said 100 times and yields nothing. You ignore people that have different opinions or have some fact-based pessimism? Especially when most pessimists still WANT the same result as the optimists.
