Rickie Collins

I liked Shrader for where we were as a program, and I loved his competitive spirit. However, that guy just loved throwing balls into the dirt on third down.

Come on, he was hurt both seasons. When he was healthy early in the first half of each year, he put up very good passing numbers. It's hard to throw with shoulder injuries.

We have different definitions of "great". He was serviceable at best.

Oh, stop it. He was around top 5-10 QB in our history.

Collected 6,818 career passing yards and completed 489-of-743 passing attempts (.658) … Amassed 75 total touchdowns in 34 career games played … Tallied 2,205 career rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on the ground

He was better for us than DeVito. He was about on par with Dungey.

Did CDRW and the kid from South Carolina resurrect anything?
“Who had that on their Bingo card 5 years ago, the Cuse is QB U for those looking to resurrect their careers!”

Thats the statement I was responding to. Want to tell me what I was wrong about. Outcomes have nothing to do with what I was responding to.

The situations are different. CDRW and the kid from South Carolina were situations where we were grasping at straws with guys that were buried on depth charts with no chance at playing. Fran, Nixon, and McCord changed the narrative to where a guy that was thought to have the chance to compete for the staring job at LSU and could've transferred to a number of other places chose us. You know football. You can't tell me with honesty you don't see the difference between the two scenarios.

Anyone was better than DeVito.

On par with Dungey is absolutely ridiculous.

The revisionist history is out of control with this dude. Let's talk about wins and losses, not how many passing yards he had. His lack of an arm lost us games.

And I don't often bet on SU football, that's a weird statement to throw in there.

DeVito actually won a few games as an NFL starter. I am not a fan of how he played for us, but Shrader won the job from DeVito.

Shrader was a pretty good QB for us, even with his injuries, clearly ranking in our Top 10 all time. You can't just call him serviceable when he was the leader of a couple teams that were doing pretty well, until injuries caught up and they fell apart.

But that's wasn't solely on him, that happened with every team with Dino.

Both players had troubling finishing seasons without injury.

Yes, Dungey won 10 games, but he was also the starter in a couple 4-8 seasons.

Dungey was 20-18 as a starter at Syracuse. Shrader was 16-12 as a starter.

I love Nassib, Dungey, Devito, Shrader and McCord, different coaches, different Olines different eras that all gave their all for us. Screw trying to compare them it is impossible. It's on to the Collins era and he is going to keep the Fran Brown era rocking.

Agreed. I get the love for Shrader. Tough kid, played his heart out, etc.

But as a QB, he was 80% legs, 20% arm. I would be disappointed if we settle for his level of QB talent. That should be the floor…nowhere near the ceiling.

I think the staff would agree.
BL: kid had heart and when healthy he gave Cuse a chance to win games unlike some of the 2nd and 3rd stringers we had to play. Garrett was a great rep for Cuse...hope he can stick at BC in the CFL.

You know as well as I do that Dungey had a competent backup his senior year in DeVito. And you also know that DeVito won 2 of the games you are giving Dungey credit for - UNC and FSU.

You also know that Shrader was in games his senior season with a severely injured throwing arm that he never should have been in had we had anything on the QB depth chart resembling a competent backup. And had we had a competent backup, we probably win more than 6 games that year. We literally got to 6 with Dan Villari running wildcat for ****’s sakes.

McCord's success is not Shrader's success is not Devito's success is not Dungey's success is not Nassib's success. They are individual. We don't need to tear down one to celebrate another. That is a fool's task. So, I am not calling you out Tep, but we need to celebrate all's accomplishments to move forward and to build. Stop the foolish comparisons.

All of those players came here to resurrect their careers.
