Rickie Collins

Both players had troubling finishing seasons without injury.

Yes, Dungey won 10 games, but he was also the starter in a couple 4-8 seasons.

Dungey was 20-18 as a starter at Syracuse. Shrader was 16-12 as a starter.
I’m a fan of Shrader’s. The guy gave it everything. If he had managed to stay healthy, he would be in a select group of SU QBs.

But Dungey won me over with one play. Throwing a pick, and then running over and stripping it out of the guy’s hands. That was the play that defined Dungey.

All of those players came here to resurrect their careers.
The poster you responded to was clearly implying that we are becoming a destination for talented QBs to portal to. That wasn't the case before Fran/McCord. If you want to choose to ignore that because we technically had QBs transfer in that were previously busts, that's fine. The rest of us will acknowledge the easily recognizable difference.

You know as well as I do that Dungey had a competent backup his senior year in DeVito. And you also know that DeVito won 2 of the games you are giving Dungey credit for - UNC and FSU.

You also know that Shrader was in games his senior season with a severely injured throwing arm that he never should have been in had we had anything on the QB depth chart resembling a competent backup. And had we had a competent backup, we probably win more than 6 games that year. We literally got to 6 with Dan Villari running wildcat for ****’s sakes.
Yeah, if you want to put a fine point on it Devito won FSU and UNC.

McCord's success is not Shrader's success is not Devito's success is not Dungey's success is not Nassib's success. They are individual. We don't need to tear down one to celebrate another. That is a fool's task. So, I am not calling you out Tep, but we need to celebrate all's accomplishments to move forward and to build. Stop the foolish comparisons.

There's really only 1 person in this thread badmouthing past QBs. Yes, let's get back to talking about Collins.

Well I hope you’re not calling me out. I’m not the one making the comparison….

I don't know what the hell I was saying, I got caught up in the whole past quarterback discussion.

Yeah, I smell a Rickie Collins coming out party in Atlanta on August 30th!!!

It would be awesome for Collins, Williams, or whoever [Carney] to emerge as a top flight starter. Nobody is going to do what McCord did -- he was a unicorn -- but having a young QB emerge would really solidify our program for several seasons.

Doesn't matter to me which one wins the job -- may the best QB win.

Hmmm… didn’t Shrader lead the program to back to back bowl games for the first time in more than 20 years?

I have nothing but appreciation for Garrett Shrader.
We were in the Pinstripe in '12 and the Texas in '13 and we won them both. I feel like Collins is the likely winner and if he is what I thought he was all the way back in post 99 - a Jayden Daniels type, then that bodes well for Syracuse getting to and winning back to back bowls. I do worry a touch about losing Williams, but I see us in on some highly regarded younger guys, so maybe it's not that big a concern with Fran, Nixon, and Nunzio taking care of business.

If Collins is the best and we can keep him for 2 years, I'm not concerned with losing anyone. If two guys were close and only one was a 1 year rental, I'd want the guy that can be here longer.

Collins throwing motion looks better in those videos than I expected after watching that one video that surfaced a few months ago.

Tough schedule but excited to prove the doubters wrong!
It definitely looked better. He had a baseball pitcher wind up in the early videos. It felt really out of place on a top QB prospect.

Player 1: Never won more than 7 games in a season

Player 2: Won 10 games in a season
Player 2: An actual school legend. Ya'll can miss me with comparing Dungey to Shrader. I've never seen one player be the soul of a football team the way Dungey was.

I totally agree, if Collins (or Williams) wins the job conclusively in the spring, and we lose the other other prospective starter as a result, so be it. Carney et all will have a competition for backup in the spring.

Then we recruit the next guy up.

Best case is we have Collins and Williams and whoever loses is a great backup in case of injury.

I'm excited Collins looks like a legit QB. Was worried he would end up being as disappointing as CDRW, who I guess I got irrationally excited about based on his pedigree. Collins seems like the real deal though. Hope he wins the job.

Agreed -- can't worry about that anymore in the era of the portal.

The key is having one guy from that group emerge. If it's Collins, great. If it's Williams, great. Doesn't matter to me, so long as one of them is a top flight starter.

I wonder if Coach Nixon goes away from the rpo a little and brings in more bootleg style plays.
