DeVito actually won a few games as an NFL starter. I am not a fan of how he played for us, but Shrader won the job from DeVito.

Shrader was a pretty good QB for us, even with his injuries, clearly ranking in our Top 10 all time. You can't just call him serviceable when he was the leader of a couple teams that were doing pretty well, until injuries caught up and they fell apart.

But that's wasn't solely on him, that happened with every team with Dino.
DeVito never took over a game and led the team to a win, that I saw.

2 things stood out watching this again:
(1) The shoddy tackling, an unfortunate aspect of Dino's defenses, was prevalent in this game.
(2) This version of Tommy Devito was never seen again, at least for SU. He was poised, in command, accurate, and fearless...a true gunslinger. Whatteva happened to that guy?

Easy Answer - The terrible pass protection the following year + the worst QB awareness I have ever seen = Devito’s Regression

He went into witness protection along with the gunslinger Dino Babers we saw from 2016-2018

Yeah, I smell a Rickie Collins coming out party in Atlanta on August 30th!!!
I will not be surprised at all if we win that game. Anything can happen week one. I think Tennessee might sleep on us, and I believe that our coaches game plan extremely well. I think we'll move the ball.

It’s the defense I’m worried about.

I think perhaps we can look at this schedule as an opportunity. If Collins (assuming he starts) can excel and we get to 7 or 8 wins, that should open eyes and really push us to some actual national conversation moving forward with much better schedules.
