Why are you creating some odd ball fake scenario? Who is asking for a Top 10 recruit? Who is advocating paying $300k let alone $3M to a HS QB? Who is this 2nd QB we brought in before Angeli that you speak of? Who is asking for 2 starters?

Non P4 schools are getting Top 50 QBs (not Top 50 players but position ranked QBs). Why are we bringing in kids outside of the Top 100?

I agree with the overall point. In this instance, HCFB brought in three new guys, each having to learn the system. Carney was on campus only after graduation and had no college experience. Carney was the low man on the priority chart, he received the least amount of coaching and reps. Your point remains valid, as do Carney's points.

Ill just add one thing to my comment though, they ran a play on second down of his first drive that could have gone for 10 years had he chose to go for one of the 2 deep routes versus the checkdown. That play easily could've been called again (pitt has no idea how limited his playbook is).

My son's HS team played a Top 20 team in state last Friday. I ask him how their film looked Wednesday before the game. He says, "Dad, they play much faster than us."

What do I say? Telling him "Go faster" only invites mental mistakes. Instead, I went with "Trust yourself. Don't be too cautious," knowing the only way to adjust is to experience "they play faster."

I'd give Rickie the same advice. If processing game speed is the issue, I get why he's still out there. How do you help a player adjust to a faster game other than experiencing it?

I admit this is all tough to watch now. He's not been good. But I also believe Rickie can get better. It'll be a lot easier for us if Rickie can be a solid #2 next year vs. finding a backup in the spring ball portal.

What are the chances he develops enough this year to be a solid #2? And if he does develop enough, what are the chances he stays here knowing that he will get less $ in NIL and be QB2 for the next 2 seasons?

I feel like the scenarios are 1. he doesn't get any better and we move on or 2. he gets better and he moves on. In both cases neither is good for our team next year.

Wise words to give your son ... and Rickie. At this point development is on Rickie, coaches can only advise. Rickie has to step up. Just like your son. You can't beat it into them. You can't work it into them. You can't over-pressure them. Just encourage them to dig deeper and step up.

No I don't think you're a bad person, I think you're acting against your own interest. You want success? Cool, me too. Rickie's confidence seems to be getting in the way of success, so lowering his confidence further just makes the situation worse.

There's some nuance here. I'm not saying "boos are mean" or whatever. When Fran sent him back out I had no issue with the boo's, that was Fran's fault. IMHO he has too much confidence in Rickie so taking Coach down a peg on that is a good thing.

Good points. Fran is showing Rickie a lot of loyalty. I hope he returns it if he gets better. However, it's gonna be Steve's job to lose if he's healthy.

If it was game one I would get the confidence argument but its game 3, if he isnt doing the right things its a talent issue. Confidence doesn't stop you from throwing the ball into triple coverage or staring down a receiver, if anything it might make it worse.

I dunno. Once he starts making some headway he's had a few drives. As above, I see the QBs on the sideline watching tape after every drive and my impression is that his play and his morale go hand in hand. And that's pretty common anyway, to the point they model it in video games.

That said I agree there is also a big talent issue. Other failures too, the coaches aren't adapting well, the line doesn't buy enough time, etc. It's @#$# situation all around.

too early to tell, not enough data points/time or reps in there. Guarantee he'll get more run the rest of the way that'll determine if he's ready and we'll know more and get a better feel for it.

He is going to get more run that has been decided. How much he gets will depend on his ability to run more of the offense and the team we are playing. I expect him to see the field against GT and play more against NC.

Not one person on here has openly rooted against Rickie. On the garbage dump that is social media? Probably. But this seems like such a strawman on here and probably a lot of cope to somehow explain away his poor performance thus far. Everyone hopes he kills it against GT.

Yall act like boo-ing is sooo emotionally deep, it’s literally sports that is what happens everywhere when your qb well essentially has played terrible and the coach keeps putting him in… what a shock.

I thought Syracuse fans did make a message on Saturday and when I heard it on TV (if I was local I would be there), the message I heard, with the words of our amazing coach that I’m still 100% behind. “We ain’t no B*tch”. We want to see good winning football. Now if you were booing and don’t show up again, the jokes on you. If you don’t like the product, leave graciously, there is nothing on the ticket that says you are guaranteed to see a great football game with a Syracuse win. If you want a good product and display your displeasure with it, not showing up when you can will only hurt the product long term.

Eh, other way around, it's shallow. "I don't like this so I complain." Babies can do that.

But whatever; while I think it's misplaced going after Rickie, anybody who's seen me boo ACC refs know it's not a hill I'm willing to die on.
