RIP RALPH WILSON

Hmm...

Mike Schopp ‏@Schopptalk
Seems Mary Wilson, wife of the late Ralph Wilson, becomes controlling owner of the Bills. The trustees will commence working toward a sale.

Potential candidates to buy the Bills will be vetted in the coming months, with a sale perhaps being consummated in about a year.

By leaving the team to his wife he avoided all estate taxes. Shrewd.

NFL reporter Vic Carucci on SIRIUS NFL RADIO this morning said the following...

-Team could be sold by October
-Terry Pegula and Tom Golisano have been "rumored" as potential buyers but neither seem eager at this point to spend over $1 billion for a team with a poor stadium situation
-Team won't stay in Orchard Park beyond this current lease, they are moving somewhere
-New owner will either move to a new city or get a new stadium built in Downtown Buffalo, Niagara Falls (American side), or Bativia, NY
-Three separate plans/blueprints for a NEW stadium in Downtown Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Bativia are complete. Just a matter of getting the money and which spot a potentially new owner would want if they want to stay in the region

Batavia makes no sense considering the Canadian fans. I also find it hard to believe that the team is going to be sold this quickly to a billionaire with the goal of relocation. Especially when he can't move before 2019 anyway without a monumental buy out. We'll see.

He said Batavia has been kicked around to get closer to Rochester and bring in money from Rochester businesses. Problem is Rochester is a dying town with Kodak and Bausch and Lomb dead there and the idea was good 10 years ago but not so much now but it was proposed and still on the table.

Carucci and the time-table he was given made sense... new owner in place late in 2014...takes over really with 2015 season and it buys him 4-5 years to get money from NY State for a new stadium or if the plan is to move the team it gives him 4 years to be wined and dined by other possible cities if such person doesn't already have one lined up. It would take a couple years for a new stadium to be built anywhere whether in the Western NY region or in any new city. So there is no rush to leave Buffalo but there is a rush to get the ball rolling on "the move" wherever it ends up being.
