Room is certainly opening up.

There's no room yet... more will have to portal to get below 85 to have room to bring in transfers... we're at about 85 now so it's 1 for 1 here on out... every exit allows an addition... the only other consideration is how firm the 85 is... Wildhack said 85 but we're allowed 105... don't know how fluid the 85 is if at all.

And always will be.

It will be damn close to 105

If they self limit to 85, that’s waving the white flag.

Obviously some of these portal decisions may be based on Fran nudging them. I wonder if maybe some of the others are players expressing interest in portaling and Fran has said see what the portal is like? Maybe some of these players will ultimately come back?

Not sure Fran works like that. I am by no means the person to say, but it seems to me that Fran wants players who want to be here and can live up to the expectations he has laid out to wear the Orange jersey. If a guy approaches him with interest in the portal, I think Fran’s response is most likely “no problem. Good luck to you.”

It was always going to be this way.

Well, a lot of these guys it was going to be their third year in the DART program. They got bigger, faster players than they ever did before. This year is supposed to be the payoff with the roster of Fran's Guys maturing as players. I'm disappointed to see so many have darted out.

If I'm going to be honest, I love Fran, but I suspect that his "get in your face" style doesn't play as well when the season turns to crap.

You have to meet your team where they are, and these coaches failed to do that after Angeli went down last year.

I honestly expect another 10-15 to portal and expect we bring in 12-15 new players

FWIW, both Josh Miller & Anwar Sparrow entered the portal last winter before ultimately deciding to return to SU.

I was thinking at the end of the season we would see 25.
Currently at 20 and at this point seems like we might be closer to 30.
So far we have lost some good pieces that would be solid 2s and if we can upgrade most of that we will have a very solid roster.

Top of my head
Need a starting RB and backup RB (maybe)
OL help just about everywhere
2 portal QBs with at least 20 - 30 games played in college
DLine and a STUD DE (don't think we can afford one but we can dream)
Starting LB and backup LBers
Safety help
Vetern punter to compete with the freshman (maybe)
Expereinced TE, yes I know we have good depth but they are all lacky real game play

We need to push hard for upgrades and not get in the slog of trading 2s until later.
I'm sure there are things I missed but that's where I'm at without to much thought haha.

Wildhack has stated he wants to pay players the maximum allowed which can be done at 85 but not 105... the thinking here is that 85 being paid the max is more an advantage in recruiting than 105 making less than max.

If we are only at 85 we might be done for good as a program. We probably need a dozen players to portal here if we want to have a winning record next year. Can we really cut 20 kids from what we currently have?

Is there going to be a farewell party for the program being done? I would like to go.

We only had one year at 105 and look how that went... 105 didn't get us a backup qb or a top OL... 85 probably gives us a better chance to land those kind of players albeit with a smaller margin of error for misses.

I want to say I remember they said last year they wanted to stay at 85 and then would explore after that.
If we do not move to above 100 scholarships it will be a very odd move and I would question as to why we just don't fund them all.
(I do know they are giving some of the $20 mill to the basketball team(s) and football is getting most of it)
