Rosthstein ACC predictions

I also hate Duke for the same reasons and one other. Growing up in Baldwinsville we had a lot of kids who would wear Duke apparel and claim to be Duke fans when they had no connection to the University. How can you like Duke or UNC when you live minutes from the Carrier Dome. It pissed me off to no end
A lot of kids where I lived really liked Duke because they were essentially racist. They cheered for them because "they look like us." That's a quote from a dude I went to high school with.

I met someone later in my life who admitted that she rooted for Duke because they had a lot of white players, and they were just "smarter than other teams." So yeah, there's that.

Personally, if I rooted for Duke it would be because they have a cool home court, an amazing head coach, and top notch players each year. I don't like Duke, but if I did those would be the reasons. To each their own though.

While this could happen, Duke is the only team in the ACC that makes me think second is more likely our ceiling. Of course with so many freshman there will be a learning curve for Duke's players. Hopefully egos are too big and they don't live up to their potential.

Of course I really should be saying who cares about Duke cause we are LOADED.
I'll never discount a freshmen laden Duke team. Coach K is just too good to let egos get in the way. Still, you never know exactly how freshman will be in college until they get on the floor. I'm sure we'll give them a run this year and won't be disappointed if we finish second behind them.

We have the horses to run with anyone this year. There should be some epic battles. I agree about Duke, K is a great coach. I just like the idea of going into a season where I don't feel that any team on the schedule, or in college basketball in general, can overwhelm us with talent. We should compete in every game. If our PG gets two or three fouls and has to sit, no big deal, the backup is not only good, but he is longer and creates a different matchup. Same goes for every other position. At center, we have length or beef or a stretch 5...choose poison. Forwards, we have it all covered. The possible lineups are endless.

I saw someone compare this roster to the 2010 one. I think the main difference on paper is that we don't have the post scorers that team had. The other thing we won't know until the season starts is chemistry. That team had it in spades. Andy Rautins was one of the smartest players I've seen wearing orange and I think he had a lot to do with that. This team should be better at protecting the rim. It could be a real fun year to watch. As nice as it has been to see the recent runs to the FF, I'm hoping we see a team that has us all excited during the regular season too.

Beating Duke at Duke last year was AMAZING. To do it two years in a row would be incredible.

If we beat Duke at Cameron and coach K substitutes incredible for amazing, ala last years post game presser, I would lose it.

It really would be incredible, because we aren't playing at Duke this year.

You can tell how much I have not studied the schedule this year. Finally looked at who were playing in ACC play just now and very happy to see we are at Clemson and NC state so I can get to at least those games. WOOHOO

They get practically violent when the referees do not call a Duke jaded game. For me at least, beating Duke feels like beating Georgetown. I don't know why but for some reason I just hate Duke. I can't stand that our player's bench is well within spitting distance of their fans. And you know their fans are a bunch a holes with absolutely no sense of fair play or sportsmanship so I imagine they do spit on our players.
At Cameron the fans are up close but the "crazies" are on the opposite side of the court from the visiting team's bench. Granted there are a limited number of seats in the stadium resulting in very few available for fans of visiting team. I was at the game Syracuse won last season, several rows up behind the Syracuse bench, completely surrounded by Duke fans. They were very knowledgeable of basketball, strongly supporting the Duke team but also recognized the solid effort by Syracuse and Boeheim. After the game they were disappointed but congratulated us on a good win and asked questions about Roberson and couple other players. I am sure there are fans not as gracious but I found the Duke fans in our section to be good sports and fair.
