Yikes. 70-7 ND beatdown in football and then 0-3 at the Players Era. This is the worst week in Cuse athletics I can remember, and I go back to the GROB era.

Our current approach to athletics seems to be...not working. Why? Any good ideas?

Probably the worst since November 2018 when we lost to ND at Yankee Stadium (albeit not by 63 points) and then got handled by UConn and Oregon at MSG.

We as fans are expecting more from our teams than they are able to provide. For what we want, we would have to double our NIL pot. I think we know that will never happen, so we are always going to be disappointed. You need a major stud to beat good teams. We don’t have one. TNT were just talking about how good the top freshman are and how they can dominate a game. It’s been years since we’ve had one. Guys like Rippey and Smith can take over games. I applaud Red and the staff for putting in all time and energy in recruiting them, but we’re not getting either of them. They spent a lot of money and time going after them. I wonder if it’s really money well spent? We still don’t have anyone that can go and get a bucket.

Impressive Cuse sports memory. Tip of the hat to you, sir.

Ugh I still have nightmares of that weekend. Lost to Uconn Thursday. Oregon Friday. Insanely hungover on Saturday and we get smoked by ND. Then on Sunday I truck my hungover ass to JFK and try to check in for my flight. Only to find out that my drunk ass (I bought my return flight while I was at the Blarney before the Oregon game) bought a ticket for 2 weeks from now, instead of that day.

Ugh I hate that weekend.

I know we are clinging to the ACC for our financial lives (and I understand why), but the downward trajectory has been noticeable over the past decade both in terms of performance on the field/court and fan experience. I'll say it, I miss the Big East, miss MSG, and I want it back.

We can’t compete in the Big East either.

Double-edged sword here, especially for basketball, you can't keep asking the fans for money to give to a coach nobody believes in. If the fans don't believe in the coaches or the product, they will not give money so at some point, Syracuse has to win with less first and build it that way and stop crying about money. (not directed at you just in general) Basketball has to prove it is a quality product and can win games. Fans and people believe in Fran so the money spiked some in football but he'd better win next year or it will start to go away.

The Big East era will never be replicated by SU in the ACC. I know, and he admitted it, that JB was impacted by the move. He adjusted, but he never had the passion for coaching that he had during the Big East decades. As a fan, I had the same reaction.

Everybody in the know says if you want to win you have to commit to paying players. It’s the only way you can win. Whether it’s the portal or hs recruiting you have to spend to get results. No money, no talent. No talent no wins. Our talent this year is overrated. Our wings are not quick enough and none of them can create off the dribble. We also lack a lot of size. Our front line is still small. Kyle plays his butt off, but there’s only lobs and no post up game.

Just straight up gaslighting in this thread from you. You’re basically saying we can only win with a Duke or UK like payroll.

NiL was significantly bumped. The guy we paid the most is injury prone. The new guys have stunk, but produced elsewhere.

Shaheen Holloway beat NC State with a quarter of our payroll the other night.

I know college sports is all about money these days, but the Big East still has something special. You can see it when MSG is packed and rocking for their tournament and you can see it in the rivalries.

I have younger relatives enrolled at Cuse right now, and the student interest in Orange sports is at an all-time low. I don't know the answer, but I think the university could benefit from some much-needed change.

We can add women’s hoops being blasted and volleyball losing every match they’ve played badly. Brutal week for SU sports

Honestly I just don’t think that people in CNY realize the amount of time, effort and capital is put towards athletics at state schools now in the Power conferences. It’s tied into local and state governments, their local economies, I’ve read stories about the judges and courts that are crazy in some places like they won’t tax players NIL.

Case in point we still want to get “deals” and value on investments on Syracuse sports while public schools are writing blank checks to pretty much anything they ask. I won’t be surprised if some team shows up with some AI super computer doing metrics real time on games soon.

Also Cuse sports are answering to a Board of trustees while the decision makers at state schools are public officials. Guess who they answer to, yea the public and the public at Kansas, or Houston, or Iowa St, or Tennessee will absolutely show up with pitchforks to toss out a coach if they performed half as poorly as Autry.

If we spent just half of what they pay we could be competitive. UK way over spent for what they have. I think you would be surprised by who got paid for most at SU.
