Tucked away in this awfully depressing lack of conference expansion action for us, I've been hearing some rumblings that RU could be making an "out-of-the-box" play for the SEC. My source cited a few key reasons below, and I will never put anything past the most successful commissioner of NCAA Football, Mike Slive.

Reasons (same as we've heard before):

-SEC to NYC/Northeast market for alumni
-Strengthen SEC academically
-Opening up Northeast recruiting even more

-TV sets for pending network

This is obviously a dream/far-fetched scenario, but it's worth noting - and nobody saw Missouri becoming a member. Let's see if Timmy P can convince Slive to make his most bold, and possibly brilliant move yet.

Have they finally hit rock bottom?

...not going to happen...and for the most amazing reason...Rutgers at least has an academic image...no football cashe'...and why ruin the one strength it has?

LOL-- hilarious!

Wow, is that fanbase delusional.

Oh man. That is the saddest thing I've ever read.

Oh wait. No it's not. It's actually the funniest.

it's hilarious, because its like these cigar smoking sec ad's and prez's sitting around a table all tony soprano like (playing poker). "you know, we need to sorta you know boost that academic presence". "i would say, let's add in rutgiz you know".

And again, another example of the most delusional fan base that's ever existed. Ridiculous

I figured they'd go to the MAC as a replacement for Temple. Really it's a great fit- a conference full of anonymous and mostly irrelevant regional public universities that no one outside of their small alumni base cares about. Stadiums always 1/3 full at most. Exciting destinations like Oxford, Ohio, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and now Piscataway, New Jersey. "Look, ma, it's Snooker!"

I'm confused the Rutjizz fans said the Big East improved after Cuse/Pitt left...why would they want to give that up? For once in their athletic history they can actually be a mover n shaker in a conference...you know through their leadership drive the nBE to greater glory with winning exploits on Versus and Cable Channel 1234-7 on TW in Middle NJ.

Perfecto!

In spite of the 1,000 guarantees from their supposed insider posters that a B1G invitation is imminent, The Patriot League is a higher probability destination for them than the SEC. They are bleeding money that they don't have.

a good number of them also think if they go 10-2 or better this year the invite from either the Big10 or ACC is in the mail.

After World War II anthropologists discovered that an unusual religion had developed among the islanders of the South Pacific.

During the War, the island natives had observed a steady stream of airplanes arriving filled with unimaginable riches. After the war ended, the planes stopped coming as the US forces departed.

The Cargo Cult members built replicas of airports and airplanes out of twigs and branches and made the sounds associated with airplanes to try to attract the planes and cargo back to the islands.

They reasoned the planes must be coming back. Just like our Rutgers fans are waiting for that Big10 or ACC invite.

This is brilliant. I am sure they are telling (lying to) HS kids that they are on their way to the SEC. Will do wonders for recruiting.

Kinda sad actually...

I mean if we hadn't gotten into the ACC, I'm sure some crackpots around here would be spreading rumors about how JoePa left us a spot in the B1G in his will.

"SEC to NYC/NE market for alumni"

This is crazy. I've been working in NYC for 15 years now and I don't see/hear anything that would lead me to believe there is much of an alumni base from SEC schools other than a small pocket from Vandy. Furthermore, I can watch 2-3 SEC games each week either on ABC or ESPN.
