Ryan's contract is up next year. Will the Giants try to trade him or pay him? He is the 70th highest paid of 88 QBs.

For reference, the average salary for a backup QB in the NFL is about $1.7 million per year.

Will be interesting for sure. Would imagine they'd be happy to keep him for so cheap. Not sure what kind of contract he could get with the NYG after next year. If another team is interested in him, what would his contract look like? Around $1.7 mil/year? Seems nuts that is the average. Wow.

The issue with him in NY and with Eli always being healthy is that he doesn't ever get any good run besides the preseason games. Not sure how another team in the league, besides the NYG, could be potentially interested in him. And that is nothing against him. I just hope he's saving a boatload of that money. He is making a pretty penny studying film with Eli.

QBs are in such demand someone will probably pay him.

I imagine he'll stick with the Giants and be given the opportunity to be Mannings successor. Learning from him for 6-8 years isn't a bad thing.

Not so sure. TC will be gone by then and everything will change.

rookie contracts are 5 years.

hes there through '17.

unless they feel he is not worthy.

Aaron Rogers was unusual in 'understudying' Bret Favre in Green Bay. And he did it for only 3 years. Anybody who is a back=-up for 6-7 years is a back-up, period. A guy with starter's talent wouldn't wait around that long.

I think the current CBA is 4 years.
unless they renegotiated it, it same one he came in under.

and they didnt.

2017.

Nassib:
7/25/2013: Signed a four-year, $2.614 million contract. The deal included a $453,600 signing bonus.

2013: $405,000
2014: $495,000
2015: $585,000
2016: $675,000
2017: Free Agent

You are incorrect. I know it pains you to admit it, but it's true.

Nassib, who is due $1.26 million over the next two years from the Giants, has played in just four regular-season games since being drafted by the team in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 227-pound passer is signed through the 2016 season at a very cap-friendly total of $1.26 million over the next two years, and all the power when it comes to Nassib’s status rests with the Giants.

i already did.

website i use, shows the year of UFA not the signed through date.

that 5th is for 1st rounders as OX pointed out.

congrats on all your unnecessary research.

Too bad he wasn't drafted by NE, O'Brien would trade for him and make him a starter.

How can they possibly feed their families?

The most violent and richest sport in the country has non-guaranteed contracts that are lower than every other major sport by a considerable margin.

It's silly to compare NFL players to everyday folks. Compared to MLB, NBA and NHL players the average salary levels are woeful.

Hell, I bet there are SEC players who take a pay cut when they're NFL rookies. ;)

We did this drill before - Steve Karsay, my (our) age, career middle reliever made over 20 mil pitching an inning here and there after being a starter didn't work out. Nassib likely will never sniff that #.

Nassib could be making comparable money on Wall Street if he chose to. I don't blame him for slummiung it in the NFL and not getting hit at all. Wall Street can be his retirement from football.
