S & C matters……

White is the only freshman of the group who looks physically ready for college basketball and he could still use 10 pounds of muscle. The portal guys coming in must be grown men physically ready for the ACC. Let’s see what Donnie looks like this Fall.

White is not physically ready for College ball. Is he super athletic yes! But he needs to add some serious weight, he honestly physically reminds me of freshman Jerami Grant.

I think if we don't see any new assistant coaches or staffers or really any change on that side, we'll know. Sure they will bring in some solid players but leaving two coaching spots open and having a small staff still is not acceptable.

Wildhack basically said the ball is in Red's court with that stuff as well.
Yes however, I can't imagine an assistant worth getting that plugs an existing hole will want to come considering Red's seat is hot now but will be boiling next season.

Not cutting anyone down especially this man because I appreciate his posts! However one poster I remember reading that they are looking to replace treadmills in the Melo or something along those lines. If that's the priority purchase from the sports performance at SU, please take us back to the 89-90 roster when treadmills were the wave.
Trust me: there are MANY fine treadmills in the Melo Center.
From a thread on March 17th.

I agree our S&C program needs an overhaul. It seems like those who have made strides in that area over the years (Brandon Triche, Etan Thomas are two who come to mind) was more the result of self motivation than anything else, at least from what I remember reading from various sources over the years.

Syracuse is just thinking on a higher level, that's all. Bulky he-man muscles are so passé.

Gabe: I remember when people thought biceps were all that. They'd flex them all night at the discotheque.
Dwight: Oh, I bet you think it's all about core, huh?
Gabe: Yeah.
Dwight: Oh, please.
Gabe: Core is critical. There are four tenets of pilates that I live my life by. One: Lengthen. Two: Elongate...

If only Cooper Flagg could have added 10-15 pounds to his skinny weak body.

There are weak-azz types that are so talented that they can forgo heavy S&C development, but they are unicorns.

Kevin Durant comes to mind - barely able to bench his own weight a couple times as I recall...

Flagg fits that unicorn build kinda, but isn't a total beanpole either (lean strength) and can jump to the rafters.

You need an effective S&C+Nutrition wholistic approach to be successful with optimizing size and performance and individual player goals that are managed closely.

I don't know what we are or are not doing in that regard, but whatever it is, it isn't working.

JGIII's one year at Clemson drew back the curtains on that.

It's a culture thing for sure. I'm sure whatever Fran is doing with the football program regarding S&C+Nutrition is all part of the DART mantra, etc.

Who was ready for his freshman year

He played 14 mins a game and was a 4ppg 3rb a game his freshman year. I think Sadiq could do about the same. Though I think Sadiq will probably play a little more than 14 a game.

Yea we were much better then. Kind of think we need Sadiq to be thr best wing to get to a bubble spot. IMG may have affected his rankings but more effective in getting him ready for next level.

Sadiq is cleaner with his drive game than Jerami was even though Jerami had a little bit more of a bag but Sadiq is stronger, maybe more like CJ Fair. Kinda view him like Oronde Gadsden where he’s too strong for 3’s and quick and athletic for 4s. I’ll take 15imins and like 8/5. Something similar too Donnie last year. He will do damage in transition (praying we can actually do that next year) and o boards.

Meanwhile some of our players literally look like children compared to these dudes, while some others don’t look like they can do 10 chin-ups.
Conditioning and endurance is key. That’s one of the things that Joe Mazzula preaches with the Celtics, even coming into training camp.

Next year, we have two tremendous athletes in Kyle and White, who can play the dunker spot, or catch lobs going to the basket. Combine them with an elite three point shooter in Kingz and an all around solid offensive player like Freeman, and you have the basis for a good offensive lineup.

One thing is missing though, I can’t think what…

Both Freeman and White can flash to FT line while other is in dunker spot. Let’s Freeman pop out more. Not sure about Kyle yet.

He's barely 18. He's got the frame and give him a few years in the NBA on a weight training program and he's going to be a monster.

Point taken for sure and agreed but players running < 5:30m miles? That I am a bit skeptical. That’s an insane time for someone 260lb

Houston / Kelvin Sampson have an identity. They recruit tough, physical players and get after you defensively, and rebound like madmen. They aren't always pretty on offense, but their offensive system plays to the above -- where they go chase misses. And if the players don't put forth what Sampson expects in terms of defensive effort, they get parked on the bench and don't play.

Our identity is unclear. We had a clear system under Boeheim, but our performance slipped when he didn't recruit as well toward the end.

Currently, we don't have an identity, and our systems are extremely basic on both sides of the ball. Huge problem.

This isn’t gonna cut it going up against men. Let’s see what these guys look like physically by year 2 if they are still around:
