When you think the program has turned the corner and you realize that's not the case They hired a wr coach that was a good buddy and good recruiter as OC. They brought in a QB that was another programs afterthought to run your offense. The AD wanted to preserve what he had by hiring the DC as head coach hoping that he would keep the other coaches but it didn't happen. Seems we are are back at square one and somewhat hopeless. I scincerly hope I'm wrong aboy all of this.

And also, when you have players correcting coaches on instruction, really shows you the staff is very green in their new positions.

The team supported hiring Shafer, too. They lobbied for him.

And we are two games in. What were people saying last year at half time of south Florida? I seem to have forgotten.

These lumps are to be expected with a green coaching staff. I'm not willing to give up on them yet.

Allen on the other hand...

What's the story behind this? Broyld's comments?
No, just some things I've heard and more than one player saying it. Obviously not going to throw them under the bus, but this staff has a lot of catching up to do.

kids are kids man. With all due respect, they don't know whats best for them. The kids fought for Grob too. Its not personal, its business

I see your point. Just wanted to emphasize that it wasn't solely Gross supporting Shafer as HC.

I'm still in the camp of supporting the staff but I can't understand why the offense seems frequently lost.

(BTW, did the team fight for GRob?)

Right, there is a lot of revisionist history going on here...Most of the program's success during the Marrone era was directly related to our current Head Coach. Only the last 7 games of 2012 did Marrone pick it up with the offense (on a consistent basis).

Noone's happy, but these guys just played two good teams on the road with a new QB and WRs...something else we all need to consider as we rip the staff for lack of strategy...we're all complaining that we lack playmakers, but as soon as they got here this staff went after anyone they could get at WR...maybe they figured that out pretty quick. It's not like Marrone loaded the place with Marvin Harrisons or anything.

I do think we need to get creative with personnel/plays...we have 6 quality "RBs", but we usually only have 2 of 'em out there at once (Smith and Broyld or Gulley and Broyld, etc). Let's get creative and have more of them on the field (did you see NW's "pistol-bone" or whatever that was? That's what you get when the staff has been around long enough to tinker)

Wait. Are you saying play to our strength? Even if its not the pistol strong armed prototype NFL quarterback combine numbers we've dreamed of? I would love to see hunt, smith, estime, PTG, McFarlane, Morris, and broyld all on the field at the same time.

there were a lot of plays tonight that really exposed some of the schemes we were running. i have never seen so many plays where we didn't have a defender within 10 yards. i really don't think it's a talent issue, and i really thought we were past the point of embarrassing losses.

Having a blitzer run up 10 seconds too early, have the offense adjust right in front of you with a new play, then execute same blitz anyway...

Hmmmmmm

Don't think one has to be a military tactician to dream up that's probably not a great idea.

I liked what I saw in the second half to be honest. Get to 2-2 going into the Clemson game and you never know what can happen.

I'm not sure what Allen's strength is right now. He has a canon for an arm. But I'm not sure he can get the ball to them. The batted down balls alone are unbelievable. Add the interceptions...the inability to create with his feet...

Don't have the numbers, but there were like 6 batted balls? Plus 4 picks? That's 10 "negative" plays that are basically due to the QB.

10/65 plays is a really high % of bad plays to put up with...throw in the lack of timeout on 3rd and 5 before the delay of game, you've got a real execution problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong...both QBs ran the no huddle hurry up, Allen before Halftime and Hunt at the end...why did Hunt look so much more in control?

He's still so raw it seems. He throws a nice ball. Pretty good anticipation when it is a primary read. After that he is pretty poor. Decision making especially. Clemson is gonna be ugly.

When you think the program has turned the corner and you realize that's not the case.

And again: the program had not turned "the" corner. The program turned "a" corner (actually, the program turned a few corners).

It's game 2. First year HC. Give it at least a little more time. If you were in the camp of not hiring a 1st yr HC, you may eventually be right. But, no one knows that right now.

Do they look awful? Yes, but 2 games is not a big enough same size.

44cuse

Yes, he throws a nice ball...usually to the other team or into a lineman's earhole. I think that just the poise that Hunt showed makes me think that he should start.

He just looks more in command and calmer, the threat of the run from him also adds a dimension. Running isn't always about speed.

Really can't point your finger at one person or thing that was wrong. When we lose we always want to blame someone. The first half we became desperate and desperate people do desperate things. The second half we started to correct a few problems but started acting desperate again. The talent and ability are definitely there but not without confidence. Clear strategies for each and every situation along with more practice could bring some confidence back. I think NW ran a few offensive plays that we could have just copied and done well with.
