Sadiq White RETURNING

It seems that almost every player should be in the portal...if for no other reason than to get a good sense of his worth.
It will be that way until there are multi-year contracts.

But in White's case...who knows?

I think this is true. But it also makes me wonder what kind of masochist would ever want to be a head coach anymore

Haha you people kill me, white is someone you want to keep

I think of it in this way

I'm a giants fan. Dexter Lawrence, who has been an absolute stud, requested a trade. Contract ploy, sure, but has legit legs to it

He's been one of if not the best DT in the league. 2 years ago he was maybe the best defender in football

The giants won 3 games

Would I love him back in 2026? Absolutely. But if he leaves.. ok - we did nothing with him here unfortunately for all

I don’t think this is all GMAC considering he touted the talent and said retention is important. I find it hard to believe he only meant Anthony.
Gerry must have been doing his JB imitation when he touted the talent. Looks like Kiyan is the only player willing to stay.

Bad Defender, Bad Attitude, Bad Shooter, Bad Rebounder, Bad Court Vision. Would much rather keep White.
Well shoot man, if it’s between the two I’d rather keep White too. I didn’t know that was the debate.

However I still say Anthony is going to be better next year. And if Gerry and staff can get him to buy in defensively, he will make the necessary adjustments. His dad being a HOF’er I’m sure he realizes his son needs to get stronger…let’s hope the S&C gets better.

Dex has two more years left and was mediocre last year.

But, I hear you.

I would like to keep White as he always had energy. It must be said however that sometimes that energy was a detriment. He also needs to be broken down and rebuilt in terms of guarding. His energy doesn't mask his fundamental flaws in playing D. I like his jump hook and jumper if he builds on it.
He hada falw or two, but most freshman do. I'm convinced this kid takes a leap over the next two years...and love how much he loves Defense.

A lot of Freshmen at this level play too fast for their own good. I believe this was White’s issue, and quite possibly bad coaching didn’t help. With Gerry and staff in place, hopefully the game slows down for Sadiq this year to see his true self.

I think he’s the most important player to stay IMO.

Wish people would stop calling it the transfer portal. It’s free agency. People looking for the best offer they can get relative to their goals, just like us shlubs with keyboard jobs.

Tough to lose White if he leaves. But we have a new coach. This is what happens. If we have the money we say we have, should not be an issue to get talent in.
Not to cry wolf. But let’s see what happens. We all feel like we are worth more money than we are worth. That is natural. The portal and the money that it commands is ridiculous. We all know that. Or at least I think we do. If indeed SU has raised it total war chest that’s great. JAB said 6 moths a go you need 10 Mil to be competitive. That was 6 months ago. From 2024 to 25 prices increased by 35%, one can only assume the same is taking place this year. That if my math is correct would make a competitive number 12 to 14 mil. That’s a lot of bananas. So before we run Gmac out of town or complain that he didn’t get the players you wanted out of the portal, remember he first t have the numbers he needs. However, he will succeed if you give him time. I love lobster and crab but I only get it once in a great while.

I think a little perspective is in order here. At the end of the day, they are still making millions of dollars coaching a game.

A few additional skills have been added to the job description dealing with 20 year olds making millions and can take their ball and leave every year, fundraising, etc, but I think it must get easier with experience. And if you’re unsuccessful, you’re only doing it for 2-3 years!

Of Donnie vs. Sadiq, Sadiq is the one I wanted to stay...hope they make it happen and he sheds his foul reputation. It was incredible how many anticipation fouls he got once he got a reputation with refs.
His problem was the stare downs on the other players after dunks which then lead to technicals later n the season. He needs to be a lot smarter and buddy up to the refs. Being a little older will help but this isn’t Tobacco country and we ain’t UNC or Duke, refs gonna make an example of him.

Is there any truth to the rumors that UNC at one time was very interested in Sadiq? I wonder if that changed with Malone taking over.

I can’t know if I’m bovvid by this until I know who we get in his stead.

I do think it sucks that any team in the future will consist largely of one-year mercenaries. And I will care about them about 25% as much as I used to care about players. Not good for the game. ‘Real’ pros have contracts because leagues know that fandom is built on caring.

"A few additional skills have been added" doesn't adequately describe what's happened IMO.

The "added skills" demand major focus/time, and are as important as actual coaching ability.
Coaches have to chase the ever-moving target, scrambling for available players and determining current values.
Coaches no longer have an opportunity to develop their players and build a program culture.
Rewards of coaching are diminished by the annual exodus of mercenaries out the revolving doors.
$ being made, but annual roster rebuilds will end bad for everyone.
It's madness, and will continue spinning more out of control until addressed.

It’s really hard to care for some of these players when all they care about is the bottom dollar amount. He doesn’t deserve high end money in my opinion. I think someone suggested he had a hard time acclimating himself to northeast winters which is understandable. Perhaps his price is higher because he really wants to leave anyways
