Sadiq White RETURNING

Just a hunch but with Melo and others around if there is a need to get over the hump on a certain player or players it’s not out of the realm of possibilities to get it done.
Bingo and it’s why the way they are moving is very intriguing. Getting all the main role players, 3rd option starter to 7th man types and depth pieces locked up and ready to go in order to be prepared for a bidding war for the stars if it comes to that. Sadiq instantly provides significant balance to this roster and makes it more attractive to the top portal point guard and center targets whoever they are.

Your quibbling - so maybe he "only" averages 8 or 9 or are you expecting less than that ?
No, I think 8 or 9 is a great target.

Just mentioning that people often talk about 10 rebound a game averages a lot more than how commonly they actually happen over a season. When you look at program history we only have 1 or 2 guys a decade that average that over a full season.

Basically it's a way higher expectation than it sounds like.

I have no inside information at all, but I could really see Melo taking Sadiq under his wing with Kiyan. Obviously not the same types of players, but just a gut feelign that Melo can help coach the kid, without the coaching title, over the summer.
I believe Kiyan and Sadiq are close friends. Or at least they were before coming to Syracuse. I see this as a big plus.

Just looked it up, there are even fewer than I thought. After Coleman only three guys have done it - Melo, the immortal Rick Jackson, and Jesse Edwards.

For some reason I thought Mookie Watkins came close his senior year, but he never even led the team in rebounding.

Boozer was the only player to average 10 a game in league play this season. Lofty goal. Freeman led us in league play with a little under 8/game (5th best in the league).

"Sadiq White is in Gerry McNamara's office, and Sadiq White is coming back! Oh my good— goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things, of all the dramatic things I've ever seen, Sadiq White standing right in Gerry McNamara's office, announcing he is back. Sadiq White is a Syracuse Orange! "

Thanks Susan

Hopefully Sadiq can work on getting his free throw percentage up. I love him back and being our starter at the 4 spot. However, he's going to need to shoot better because he's going to get more opportunities next year at the line.

From the beginning I said the structure of our team was going to be:

Portal
Doty/Anthony
Portal/Doty
White/Folefac
Portal
Love White and so glad he’s returning. That’s huge.

This is shaping up to be a very young team, though, if we’re putting all these freshman and sophomores in key roles. I’ll be curious who else we can land from the portal. We’re going to need 3-4 talented older guys to supplement Kiyan, White, Doty, Folefac, and the new Euro kid, Mark Marano. I would prioritize size and experience with those portal guys.

If we can also get Kingz back for a year, I’d be very excited about the potential of this roster

White an Kingz are the only 2 I'd take from this year's squad... so halfway there...

I mean, yeah, Kiyan too, cuz we have to... but c'mon Kingz!

I believe the term is “crushing” it.

"Orange Crushing" it...

Fanta is for wussies.

This is a great move by SADIQ. These coaches and system will allow Sadiq to flourish. He’ll be the starting power forward. He’s intense, defensively he’s really good. Things that G-Mac love. He’s obviously reallllly good in the open floor. Who better to coach with some post moves on the block that AO….hes got a decent shot for a power forward something that he can work on. If he can be a consistent 33% 3 point shooter that will be perfect. Not his main part of his game but it’s serviceable. Let him cook in defense and in the open floor. He’s obviously a freak athlete too. But this system and G-macs staff are perfect for Sadiq. He made the smart move, he’ll be making more money in the long run by staying than chasing the bag now

144% THIS.

It’s also like when posters say they’d like a C to average 3-4 blocks / game.

As if that’s some routinely achievable benchmark.

When literally the ONLY player in Cuse history to achieve that was Etan.

Perhaps Doty can mentor him with free throws. He shot more free throws than anyone else at Siena and made them 86% of the time.

He was an insane 23 of 25 shooting free throws in the MAAC tournament.

Good stuff! Thanks. Do you believe that currently Doty and White are the only starters on the roster? I figure to really compete they need 3 high level players to join them, especially PG and C but more size and shooting at SF would be welcomed.

Right now I think we have 2 starters in Doty. Doty will start at the 2 or 3 depending who we bring in. Sadiq at the 4. Anthony, Morano and Goodrich are good pieces off the bench already. I feel pretty confident we will end up with a stud point guard. And think there’s a good shot we end up with a stud shooting guard too. Which would slide Doty to the 3. We will add Folefac too. Interested who we end up with at Center. I think we have a very good shot at Estrella. Would like a little more fire power there too. But Estrella is not a bad player by any means

Yeah, so... Kiyan is gonna start.
