Say Your Goodbyes: The ACC's Days Are Numbered

There's quite a bit more to it than the FSU BOT saying more than he should have. The complaints with the contract, which there are very serious complaints just not so much the ones he raised, are part of the justification those schools are raising to leave the conference. The move was being talked about a lot earlier than that. They wanted to leave for SEC two years ago, asked again in 2011, and then switched gears fully to B12. Serious discussion through intermediaries has been going on since then.

B12 is planning to take 5 ACC schools over this year and next. That's FSU, Clemson this year; and, GT, either Duke or NCSU, and either VT or Maryland all next summer. SEC is targeting either VT or UVa and either UNC or NCSU. UVa has said they're talking to B1G. Maryland hasn't said anything but they're 5m in the hole from last year. You want to speculate what other teams could go to B1G, that's fine cause I don't know but if the ACC blows up you can be sure they'll take advantage of the situation. PAC obviously isn't a player on the east coast. That don't have as many options. They probably will have to swallow some pride on the academic front to take Boise & BYU. I couldn't say what else that may have in mind.

So Duke's going to the B12 huh? Sorry, that ruins the credibility of the entire post, which wasn't great to begin with.

You're so full of crap. Duke to the Big 12 - the same conference that was on its death bed just a few months ago. Yeah, that's likely to happen.

Because the PAC has nothing else in mind. They're happy with 12.

They're not taking Fresno and San Diego because they don't want anymore Cali schools. They're not taking UNLV and Reno. They're not taking New Mex and New Mex St. And Texas isn't coming.

You read too much internet propaganda.

Duke to the Big 12? Seriously?

Yeah, I can see Duke leaving the ACC in order to compete in the B12. Sure I can.

Let's think on this for a moment. Kansas, KState, Iowas State, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TTech and Baylor have all attempted to leave the Big 12 and contacted at least 2 conferences each. Four others have successfully left the confernce, all respectable schools. Now, of a sudden, the Big 12 is secure, they are attracting new schools to join them, taking their pick leaving the crumbs for the other conferences. I can understand TCU and WVU wanting out of the Big East and into the Big 12, but FSU and four more ACC schools to the Big 12? Still not buying it.

Then you want us to believe the Pac 12 is helpless and will get stuck with BYU and Boise St. The PAc 12 is far more stable and the northern schools, especially if paired with OU and/or Texas, would be welcomed into the Pac 12. The Pac will not allow BYU in based on religion and Boise St. based on academics.

Another thing to think about is that the B1G will assist the Pac 12 in any way necessary to ensure they are not destablized or marginalized. The conferences have a much better working realtionhip than most imagine. The B1G would tear apart the Big 12 before the Big 12 is allowed to isolate teh Pac 12 and render it 2nd class.

The Big 12 is by geography the most vulernable. If the PAC12 is going to 16, that's where teams are coming from. KU, KSt, and ISt are all natural geographical fits for the B10. If the ACC holds firm WVU and L'ville are obvious choices for the SEC to get to 16.

And why 5 ACC schools, are you assuming ND is #6?

Oh my goodness are you all in on expansion. I love types like you. If it ever does get to 4 X 16, you'll either go into depression or try to figure out ways to move the chess pieces between leagues.

And if and when all of this is wrong, you'll just be random guy from Texas who was posting on a Syracuse board (of all places), so who would call you out? And why would you care if they did?

I think I've decided that the real sad part isn't people like you who go board to board with your "insider info". The sad part is the people that read it and believe it. It has to be true, I read it on the internet!

nice guy...

It is absolutely amazing how everybody that got the last round of realignment wrong are back preaching the inevitability of anything! The BIG 12 was pronounced dead a few times and now because they have a bowl game with the SEC they are top dog?

Think about this - all the TV contracts will be done soon and the monetary incentive is just not what it was before the last round of musical chairs. I have seen credible analysis that shows the difference between the new ACC contract and an expanded SEC deal is about $1 million. Nobody is going to jump for that.

The law of diminishing returns is about to set in and the numbers may not be what everybody assumes they will be. It will be interesting,
