Schedule update: ACC-Big 10 Challenge? Georgetown? Carrier Dome bubble?

Syracuse Men's Basketball will seek out a multiple-team event (MTE) at the beginning of the 2020-21 season, according to John Rothstein. This follows Syracuse's' announcement of withdrawing from the Gotham Classic on Thursday.

If we have to stay in-state, its likely to be a pretty meh thing with Cornell, Ithaca, Siena, maybe St Johns.

If we can go a bit more regionally...I'd love a Big East reunion of teams like St Johns, Seton Hall , Georgetown, UConn...

Zero issue with the previous post moved into here, but I feel like I keep hearing "break out new threads" ...

I'm surprised that we don't regularly play 2 old BEC teams every year - they are just the right SOS type of teams that we should be scheduling - and the historical relationship makes it a no-brainer.

I definitely want to see Rutgers-Cuse. Time to remind them who the boss is.

Side note: I would love to see Cuse rotate a few old Big East teams. One year St. John's another Villanova or Providence. I think some connection back to the league would be nice (other than annually playing Gtown).

An old school big east tourney at msg would be epic.

Ivy League may not be playing non-conference games this season.

Just a guess but maybe schedule is something like this:

Nov. 25th: Early ACC Game 1 on road?
Dec 2nd-Dec 5th: We host 3 Team MTE with OOC local schools (Dome is free Sat w/ football at ND)
Dec 8th/9th: B1G/ACC Challenge on the road (Rutgers does seem most logical)
Dec 12th (Sat): OOC Game against local school
Dec 16th: OOC Game against another local school
Dec 19th: ACC Game 2
Dec 28thish: OOC Game
Jan 2/Jan 9: Host Georgetown on Saturday (as Rothstein reported)

Just pure speculation and guessing here. But that gets us to 7 OOC games. I agree Niagara seems like a lock as others have mentioned.

Sounds pretty good.
A couple of comments:
I think the ACC is now planning to have 3 conference games before December is done.

A 4 team invitational in early December sounds likely. Will it be at the dome or somewhere else? I think for a while the plan was to play at a casino in Connecticut but it sounds more likely it will happen at the dome now.

Yeah I forgot about the three conference games. They also might just not hit 7 OOC games I guess, which is fine.

I wonder how four fewer games and two less exhibition games affect the cost of season tickets?

I wonder how not being allowed into the Dome to watch games until maybe January will affect the cost of tickets?
I think SU will do what they did for football and give season ticket holders the option of transferring until next year, give as donation, or return of funds. Any home games this year will be bought on a game by game basis.

seton hall and st.johns for sure

One option would be to play BYU at the dome in early December. They will be coming East to play UConn at a casino in Connecticut and would like to play another game in the NE while they are in the region. Not sure if this would conflict with the ACC-B1G challenge or if JB wants to play another good OOC opponent in December (that would be our fifth game against a good program in December alone).

One source close to the program told Vanquish the Foe that BYU will open with USC and then play UConn/Vandy the second game. USC finished last season ranked 55 in KenPom and is expected to compete for a tourney bid. Since BYU will be in Connecticut, the Cougars are also aiming to schedule a home-and-home series the same week with a Big East or ACC team starting on the road and the return game in Provo in 2021.

That would be a GREAT non-con game but playing BYU in a (at best) half empty dome and having the return game be in their (hopefully) packed gym isn’t a great deal for us. A 2-1 seems more fair given the circumstances, for anyone not just us.

In a 27 game regular season, 20 is ACC and you got Gtown and ACC/B10 challenge game.

I don't see a need to schedule another high-level OOC game. That's just me though.

Pandemic scheduling aside... Why don’t we play Villanova every year? We did the first two years after the end of the old Big East but haven’t the past few. I think I’d rather play them than UConn and psycho Danny Hurley.
