While he was a failed P5 coach, he was still a P5 coach, something that Gerry cant say so his price probably was higher than Gerry's. He was more or less making Gerry's salary in 2021

Sound like someone should fire his agent. I don't understand why he didn't try his best to get a lower level HC College job when he got fired from Washington. Unless he did and no one was interested. The NBA experience does nothing when you have a not so successful Power Conference coaching stint prior on your resume. Which if it is the case, that no low major was interested in Hopkins right after Washington, how could his agent think they had any leverage on his personal salary negotiation at Syracuse lol. And when he didn't get the job was immediately turning attention to Siena. The entire thing is bizarre. Gerry is the type of riskier hire that is not fully proven, not unproven, but somewhat proven that makes it is easier to get behind.

I mean, in theory, sure… But then how does Utah State and VCU keep reloading with a new up and coming coach each time that their guy leaves? (Xavier used to be in this position too, with consistent good results despite a succession of new coaches.) I don’t know if it’s as big of a concern as you think.

Other insiders shared that we got very close to closing a deal with Schertz (until SLU stepped up with even more NIL) and so did at least one national reporter.

In fairness they load up to try and make the tournament and maybe win a game while playing conference opponents that 80 pct would be 4-5 win teams in the ACC. It’s a different path and set of goals vs at this level.

I would say Schertz is likely the only coach worth that risk if any and it seems BB and team were looking at that in the same lens based on what has been passed along.

You think that’s bad. I put a big pretend bet down at Cliftonpark’s casino thinking 2/1 odds was free money for a Hodgson hire. I’m broke now.

There is no way they could have sold Hop to fans.

I mean, I am sure they would have tried, but I highly doubt there would be much excitement.
