How delusional or egomaniacal is Hop? He stunk. The number for the salary he wanted was crazier. Only reason he isn’t the coach

I’d like to think he’s still pissed it didn’t go the way it was supposed to years ago so he tried to extract an extra pound of flesh. How delusional or egomaniacal is Hop? He stunk.
While he was a failed P5 coach, he was still a P5 coach, something that Gerry cant say so his price probably was higher than Gerry's. He was more or less making Gerry's salary in 2021How delusional or egomaniacal is Hop? He stunk.
Maybe, but he has no really good alternatives. That said I am very happy it didn't happen. It would have been a joke nationally.I’d like to think he’s still pissed it didn’t go the way it was supposed to years ago so he tried to extract an extra pound of flesh.
Eh, he’s probably enjoying his nba gig, so he was just trying to truly make it worth his while to make the change.Maybe, but he has no really good alternatives. That said I am very happy it didn't happen. It would have been a joke nationally.
Having bad experience is worse than having no experience. While he was a failed P5 coach, he was still a P5 coach, something that Gerry cant say so his price probably was higher than Gerry's. He was more or less making Gerry's salary in 2021

I dont disagree, but thats likley not how he, or most coaches, thinkHaving bad experience is worse than having no experience.
Sound like someone should fire his agent. I don't understand why he didn't try his best to get a lower level HC College job when he got fired from Washington. Unless he did and no one was interested. The NBA experience does nothing when you have a not so successful Power Conference coaching stint prior on your resume. Which if it is the case, that no low major was interested in Hopkins right after Washington, how could his agent think they had any leverage on his personal salary negotiation at Syracuse lol. And when he didn't get the job was immediately turning attention to Siena. The entire thing is bizarre. Gerry is the type of riskier hire that is not fully proven, not unproven, but somewhat proven that makes it is easier to get behind. The number for the salary he wanted was crazier. Only reason he isn’t the coach
I worried about this for years. Exactly what I was concerned would happen has.
Our own program has to build back up and that’s not at all putting it down. We are not a championship brand right now we are a middle of the road to below average P4 program that has to prove its worth it’s historical reputation in order to bring that back. It’s not us beating down the program it’s being real about where we are. Just as much as people need to be practical with the fact Gerry has to prove he is the right guy we need to be practical with where the program stands vs through biased lens.
Not necessarily. Those blue bloods don’t open up very often. There is always a “better job.”
Doubt it.schertz absolutely would not have been here long term and that was a consideration when making a run at him.
I mean, in theory, sure… But then how does Utah State and VCU keep reloading with a new up and coming coach each time that their guy leaves? (Xavier used to be in this position too, with consistent good results despite a succession of new coaches.) I don’t know if it’s as big of a concern as you think.Hopefully once staff is announced the tide will start leaning his direction more. Being fearful of the job and expectations and then being a flight risk can’t be taken lightly. You invest heavily in one of these guys as a large donor and he bails in a few years and it’s no different in terms of money drying up… to which it would not be as fruitful to begin with because of that exact risk.
Other insiders shared that we got very close to closing a deal with Schertz (until SLU stepped up with even more NIL) and so did at least one national reporter. We were way closer to Hop being the coach than Schertz. And I mean way closer

The story jumps around so much it’s hard to keep it straight. 2 weeks ago schertz was in the final stages and we had no idea what way it was going to go between him and Gerry, now he was never even close and hop, who was never mentioned as a final candidate was “way closer?”

You think that’s bad. I put a big pretend bet down at Cliftonpark’s casino thinking 2/1 odds was free money for a Hodgson hire. I’m broke now.Right? I mean, I'm still trying to get that "Signed, Sealed Delivered (I'm Yours)" ringtone with a pic of Hodgson deleted from my phone!![]()

You mean "welcome home coach in ten year waiting finally" wouldn't have worked? There is no way they could have sold Hop to fans.
I mean, I am sure they would have tried, but I highly doubt there would be much excitement.
The rumor I've seen is that SLU will have $10 million this year, which is unheard of for an A10 school. If Schertz has that much money at his disposal, SLU should be a 30+ win team for the foreseeable future, which would put him in the running when Kansas opens up. Going to Syracuse would be a big risk because it would be a huge career set-back if he doesn't win.A guy from The Athletic was interviewed today on origin nation. I assumed he meant after the Syracuse offer, but he said St. Louis donors came up with a massive war chest for him that was bigger than Syracuse and double anybody else in their conference.
