SDSU post game

I’m nervous about griffin. Yes when he cooks it’s great offensively. But I think it’s pretty clear the defense is much better when he is not in the game. Braswell is a difference maker on the wing. Especially when paired with Edwards. Nothing comes easy inside.

I just rewatched the game. SD St. made their last 8 3-pointers in the game (from the 6 minute mark to the end of the game).

SD St. was 3 for 32 shooting threes before make their last 8.

This could have been a 30+ point blowout if SD St. didn’t go hot at the end of the game!

Or if SU hadn’t opted to play very soft defense those last 4 to 5 minutes.

A few thoughts
-It is stating the obvious to say Buddy was unreal. Everyone will seize on the logo shot but the one that really blew me away was the set play where he came off a pic and hit a 24 footer in front of the Syracuse bench. In the first half early the San Diego defense was excellent and buddy created his own shots and hit some very difficult contested jumpers, the same jumpers I and many others didn’t think he could make earlier in the season. I mean this kid just dropped 30 against a six seed in the NCAA tournament. Special stuff.
-His dad had a big night as well. After a few good looks early San Diego had no idea what to do on offense. Every substitution JB made played out nicely. He did a good job taking buddy out to avoid getting the third foul before the half.
-Jesse was absolutely sensational and it was clear what a factor he was defensively. San Diego got nothing in the paint when Jesse was in the game. Also that offensive move he made was nice and showed that he is confident he can do it. He is playing with a lot of swag right now.
-Kadary struggled early offensively but it was clear what a factor he was on the defensive end. When he came in the open looks for San Diego State really disappeared on the perimeter. In the second half it was great to see him stroke a couple of threes which shows that his shot will develop. I laughed when I heard the San Diego State coach lament the fact that Kadary hit threes after not doing so all year.
-JG3 likewise had some big strokes in the first half. However if we are going to have a shot against West Virginia he cannot give them four gift turnovers like he did last night. These were basically unforced dribbling errors that are totally unacceptable.
-not to get carried away but when bras hit that three in the second half to put us up 26 it was pure bliss that reminded me of when Duany hit that three in the first half against Kansas in the finals. It just seemed like everything was clicking perfectly.
-If you had told me AG and Quincy would combine for three points I don’t think I would have believed we would have won let alone easily.
-marek played a Great Marek game and his help against pressure bringing the ball up doesn’t show in the box score but was very helpful.
-I didn’t mean anything but it was still nice to see Woody come in and nail a three
-I know the staff and the players are far from satisfied and we are only a 3 1/2 point dog tomorrow. But in some ways last night’s win and this run has made this seem like a successful season in any event and regardless of what happens the rest of the way. I know that one win in the NCAA is not what we aspire to but when you consider that we were down 20 or so to Notre Dame at home at the half just a short time ago that’s just how it feels. This team has come a long way.

Who is he going to guard? I believe he will continue to improve on offense because the kid works his butt off. But he won't get quicker.
I don’t think he’s much slower than Rautins.

I do and Andy wasn't quick enough
Not saying he isn’t as quick, but I don’t think the gap between them is that big.

Andy wasn’t quick enough for the league but he still made it.

I think Buddy ends up with a cup of coffee at least, probably Europe though where he could be out there for a long time or who knows if he ends up coaching somewhere within the next 10 years.

Julie will go nuts if Buddy and Jimmy are both playing in Europe.

I called that last year. He always had the elite trait, but now he’s filling out the rest of his game at an alarming rate.

Whether he makes it or not, his shot is absolutely NBA level. It's not about defending him better now it's about denying him the ball. High release, constant and he has finally gotten his footwork locked in. NBA shooters have off nights but most nights they make their shots unless facing an elite defender or being denied the ball all night. His foot speed may be a problem when all is said and done still but his shot isn't going to all the sudden bail on him because of collegiate defender.

The guy I think of pro wise when I look at Buddy is Adam Morrison who played at Zaga. That dude ended up being a headcase plus health issues but he had a shot. Also Morrison was a SF too but just thinking in terms of how he scored and being a slower more methodical player.

I watched the game last night at a VFW with a bunch of Penn State fans that were so giddy to see THE OSU lose that they were actually rooting for us with me.
Damn! What were ya'll drinking!

Duncan Robinson starts for Miami. Joe Harris starts for the Nets. That’s probably his upside. I do think Andy would have made it if he was 5 years younger. The game changed a lot from 2010 to 2015.

Wonder where Robinson and Harris play at lunch time.

Yeah. His three-point shots made running away from the basket were Mark Price-esque!
