Sean Tucker vs Ernie Davis

Ernie played both ways. They had 2-3 units that played both ways and each played certain parts of each half. That's why nobody from back then carried the ball as much or gained as many yards as they do now.
Thanks for the historical context SWC, I honestly didn't realize that Ernie played both ways.

There's a very strong chance that Tucker outrushes Ernie Davis on fewer carrier in 7 games than Davis did in 10 games his Heisman year.

give Tuck the 44

maybe it’ll help keep him here after we fire Dino or maybe it’ll keep him here if we don’t fire Dino

Didn't Ernie have an interception in the bowl game in 1959 or was that dramatic license from the movie?

Yes he did. I remember that interception in the 2nd half like it was yesterday. Although, I was born in 1970. Thanks, Google. :)

It's just stupid the fact that we don't leverage that number anymore. Yeah, retiring the number makes so much more sense. That's almost equivalent to a Dino decision.

From the book '59 by Maury and Gary Youmans:

(After Texas scored but failed on a two point conversion to make it SU 15 Texas 6 in the third period) "Syracuse marched back down the field reaching the Texas 23 yard line but a Sarette pass to the end zone was intercepted by the Longhorn's Mike Cotten. Three plays later Cotten had the tables turned on him. the Texas back-up quarterback, under pressure form Roger Davis, threw down the field where Ernie Davis intercepted the ball at the Texas 36 yard line, returning it 12 yards to give his team great field position. at the Texas 24. On second down Davis ran right, looking to pass, but could not find anyone open Now, running left, and reversing field , he picked up a wall of blockers and motored down to the 3 yard line before being knocked out of bounds. On first down Schwedes burst off right guard for the touchdown. Sarette's easy flip to Davis in the end zone added another two points, stretching the Syracuse lead to 23-6."

This film doesn't have the interception but the subsequent score is at 5:25:
