Searched for "3 tight end offense", is this where we are this fall

Broyld will split out wide that’s the point. The HBack in the system goes tight or wide.

Two tight ends doesn’t mean both guys are in a 3 point stance on either side of the tackle.

I’m using HBack because I don’t know what else to call the position, but if the guy is tight he’s an hback and if he’s split he’s a slot ? IDK. Phillips will play the slot but he’ll be in the back field a lot I’d assume. I don’t think his role will be all that different than what it is to begin with. Broyld to, Lester’s still going to want to get the ball to him in space. It’d be crazy not to.

I disagree that’s just easier to stick a WR outside and run the ball. You’re still blocking 7 against the 8 guys in the box.
the fewer guys you need to block, the less chance that someone gets beat.

I really like the idea of having an Offensive Coordinator who's main strength seems to be his flexibility in approach since we have such a variety of offensive skill players this year.. With the broad set of skills he will have at his disposal, he can run most anything he wants!

A. 3 pure game breaking RBs (Strickland, M&M)

B. 2 RBs who are equally great in the backfield or split out wide (estime/philips)

C. 4 oversized receivers/athletic tight ends (Broyld, Custis, Enoicy, Dunk)

D. 1 great traditional receiver (Ishmael) with plenty of promising depth (lewis, cornelius etc)

E. 2 solid blocking tight ends who can catch when needed (provo, parris)

I wouldn't mind a lineup of 1 from each column

what??? isn't this the time for optimism??? ISN'T IT??? :D:E

Outside of parris, the TE, HBack and slot positions are a little blurry. We have a handful kids that can play all 3 positions and be on the field at the same time.

AAM is gone.
It was like they put him on the shelf for next year the last few games . Understandable confusion

if broyld is only split out wide, he's not an h back. my point is he's not going to be much use blocking inside. if your h back doesn't actually play like an h back, a defense is not going to be confused

If you have a bunch of guys on the field that can line up anywhere without subbing - it doesn't matter - they will be confused.

It'll give some ideas as to what you may see on the field next year. I have no idea if it will be a base package or just a package.

I'm sure alot of guys have already viewed it, but, it's readily available and may give some more substance to the conversation.

It could be the relative size of the guys playing, but I didn't see big tightends as much as double wingbacks playing in line. I only watched a couple of minutes, but it wasn't like he was stacking extra tackles at the end of the line and running dives into the A Gap or the power play.

wingback. i kept referring to hback but wingback is the term for the position. it's defnitinely not two tight ends.

lets just pull the ND box out of a hat .. no one has seen that in years and that worked really well for a long time.. that would get our best athletes in space with the ball too and remove most of the throwing errors.

you and me could go out there and line up anywhere. there are tradeoffs to being multiple - air raid teams get more reps. hopefully irv philips can be a poor mans percy harvin, i'm ok with using good playmakers in a hybrid role but I'd rather do it from a base personnel that is more spread out. start there and move dunkelberger and/or phillips around however you want

Lots of wingback plays. Of course, the wingbacks can be anything Lester wants. Lots of motion from those formations but most seemed to be for blocking rather than passing. Since we will either have a running QB (Hunt) or kids, it is probably not a bad idea to have a lot of blockers and motion. I suspect that has something to do with his scheme.

from an article today:

"What we know is that Lester popped in some clips of the Seattle Seahawks offense when Dontae Strickland was on campus to show some of the concepts he would be installing. "

Ok, so I don't recall seeing Seattle running much of a 2 TE look. They seem to be mostly in 3 WR/1RB. So I guess instead of looking for the next Gronk, it's about finding the next Lynch.
