SEC currently has 13 teams in the Big Dance

So at least the ACC/SEC games are finally over.
ACC went 4-30 against the SEC this year. I'm not even sure how that is possible.

It would be nice if the ACC could take over the BE gig, and get into a rivalry with the B12 instead of the SEC. As I documented, in my other thread the B12 has a way of really dominating in the Q4 games more than others (which boosts its NET), but at the same time don't too much better in higher profile games.

Dont worry, once we finish our nosedive this year, we’ll be *totally* different next year and can be the tip of the spear to turn this around for the Carolina Conference we’re in.

Maybe this will make you feel better. Based on NET we are now one of the first 74 teams out of the tournament.
Torvik's ranking of High Majors, here are the 10 worst teams:
Wake Forest (ACC)
Georgia Tech (ACC)
Miami (ACC)
California (ACC)
Washington (Post-Hop era)
Syracuse (ACC)
Minnesota
Seton Hall
Virginia Tech (ACC)
Boston College (ACC)

For those keeping score at home, the ACC has 7 of the 10 worst high major college basketball teams.

I'm not sure we beat many of those teams either. Wed be lucky to get more than 2 wins if we played all of them.

As jncuse said the ACC went 4-30 against the SEC. I don’t know how or what to do to change this but NIL has put ACC teams at an extreme disadvantage. Boeheim eluded to it yesterday how ACC schools are not competing money wise. Just scary how fast the decline of the ACC has been.

Fortunately Cuse has football going for it. Hopefully a blueprint for future success in other sports.

My biggest hope is fran can turn the ship around and beat up on these other teams and hopefully, get us a seat at the table in a new conference when the ACC eventually collapses.

At least the ACC has soccer and lacrosse to hang it's hat on.
Unfortunately there's no $$ to be had there.
I keep wanting to get into soccer but I can't grasp it. Vermont, an American East team, just recently won the NCAA Championship. They weren't even one of the top sixteen seeds going into the tournament. They beat Iona just to get into the main part of the tournament.

After that, they beat Hofstra, San Diego, Pitt and Denver and then beat 13th seeded Marshall, a Sun Belt member in the championship game. Almost the equivalent of two Tuesday night qualifiers making the NCAA Basketball finals. Not exactly the ACC vs the B1G.

Congrats to UVM, but if the did away with college soccer would anyone notice. And yes it was nice Cuse won the NC in Soccer, but it's not a hang your hat on it kind of sport.

Unfortunately, based on the players (ACC) et al, I can see this same/similar scenario along that; "where do you think you'll be in 5 years" deal, and, for the most part, any change of that status quo, not being of any substantial significance.

whats crazy is that empowering and paying players seems to have sucked all of the parity out of the sport

wonder how it will effect the NCAAT

just looked at the NET rankings...its wild...as of jan 2 2024

only 3 non p5 teams in the top 42 of NET - gonzaga, utah st and memphis

is it me or is the sport more top-heavy than its ever been?

It’s the coaches, stupid! When the new Big East was king, they had the deep bench of premier coaches. Boeheim. Pitino. Wright. Calhoun. Huggie. Buzz. Dixon. JT3 ( vom ). Even dorky turtle neck Mike Brey. Sure there were some duds, but the conference had star power coaches. Compare that and the SEC with the current crop of coaches in the ACC. It’s painfully obvious why the conference is lagging behind. You can buy all the players you want but you need a competent coach to lead them.
The new first year Vandy coach was a good hire for them. Mark Byington who coached at James Madison. He flipped the entire roster in first year after mediocre coaching run with Jerry Stackhouse, currently Vandy is 12-1 entering conference play, weak SOS, but pretty good NET rating. They lack height, play pressing D, and uptempo O. Fun to watch

This is honestly ridiculous. Every team could be in the NCAAT. Look at the records:

I would love to see NIL by roster for the SEC vs NIL by roster for the ACC. I hate how most of this is in the shadows.

ACC has four. NIL sticks. The transfer portal stinks. The NCAA stinks. College Basketball stinks.

I think we are in the goldrush phase of NIL. I can't remember, but one of the recent games the announcer mentioned "donor fatigue." That's a great term for what I predict will be coming. NIL isn't going anywhere but it's going to cool off a bit. Only 1 team can win the championship every year. Combine that with guys that get paid handsomely, fail to win, and then hit the portal and rich dudes are eventually going to get tired of it. Most of them (unless it's all inherited money) got rich by being good with money. Being a platonic sugar daddy for 18-21 year olds that fail to bring back a trophy year after year is going to get old.

Yup. It's great to see Old State U win, but chances are these "rich" people have other causes they believe in as well. Do you want to take care of a college kid who may be a one year mercenary or would you rather help some deserving needy kids who might never see the inside of a college classroom if it wasn't for your scholarship.
