Secondary is a hot mess

It was like a bend don't break style of defense. The problem is once you allow the catch you have to tackle. A guy breaks a tackle in a defense like this its a big gain. And most of the catches were big gains. We have some work to do.

Kids make mistakes - simple as that. Corey made a few big ones.

Where are those posters who, post Rhode Island, proclaimed that this defense is amazing?! Rhode Island! That being said, Wake clearly has a few playmakers on offense. Their frosh RB and a couple of their receivers are NICE.

Yo. Right here. We won. 3 INTS. 4 or 5 SACKS.

I think the defense is young and dangerous and inexperienced. Will give up some but are forcing a ton of TO's.

They were called "negative" and ostracized.

No they weren't. Show me those threads.

Very true. I am pleased with this win because I thought Wake was better than most thought on here. We got lucky on a few plays like the Dungey/Estime connection but progress is being made. Big plays like you say on D. Still, some obvious concerns in the secondary.

I wouldn't call that play lucky. When other teams make those plays they are talented, but Whe we make them we're lucky?

Whigham looked especially bad today.
When? I saw Rodney Williams get beat over the top on that first td. They were playing cover 2. Whig made a nice break on one throw. Easily or best cb today.

There is serious work to be done in the secondary. I thought the safeties played especially poorly today and I was falbergated that they and the CB's kept giving WF that stupid 6-10 yd. up and out route over and over and over. I thought Williams was out of position several times and Scissum was really bad. Cordy can play but bit on the play fake too much and plays off of the receiver. Too much standing around and watching instead of pressing, reacting to the play and closing, hitting and tackling the receiver. We are really going to struggle against accurate throwers like the UVA QB. I watched them play ND and he is very good. This group is young but they are going to have to be coached up to play with the big boy or else.

This should be the number 1 recruiting target. Our secondary was really poor. I thought the last quarter they played a lot better, but the soft cushions are just easy for WRs to break their routes and always be wide open.
We need to mix in bump and run and other looks. I mean the coaches need to help the players. I get we are young here but we need to improve greatly in the secondary as the front 7 looks really really solid.

I was yelling at the TV for our bend, dont break strategy, but it kinda ended up working. When the QB was 12 of 13 in that stretch in the 2nd/3rd it was looking ugly but the pressure caught up to the coverage and things turned quickly.

We can agree to disagree. He threw across his body, without much zip, and Estime came back for the ball. Missed tackle. A better corner picks that off.

Is there something about how the secondary is setup that allows for Wolford to make a lot of completions?
I don't know what I'm talking about here - just wondering if the defensive scheme provides the opportunity for these completions.

I actually believe it is the scheme more than the players. We have good athletes back there they just seem to be confused and/or playing soft/off the receiver. Bend don't break. In SS agressive blitzing scheme you cannot have the corners and safeties playing soft (off 8-10 yds) because they are almost always bringing the weak side LB up to the line and leaving the middle or short route exposed. #15 and #80 for WF killed us today.

He played well in the 4th quarter though. He batted away that pass with his left hand. It would have been a first down had the receiver caught it. He is fairly new to the position so I will cut him a break for some mistakes. Whigam and Morgan on the other hand get none. They need to cover better and wrap up when they tackle. They have been here and played longer.

And his 2nd INT. He's going to be a good one by the time he's done here.

The defense is just a real mess. They can't stop anyone. Giving up yards and points like crazy they're hopless

Don't be so uptight.

Now I'm uptight?! You've been complaining about not being muzzled all day.

Let it go man.

I have zero clue what you're even talking about. Complaining all day? I've been ecstatic all day, especially after halftime.
