How does the university determine how many seats to set aside for students? That looked pretty bad when they showed it on tv today, and you might be able to convince some people who don't want to pay $38 for a seat behind the curtain to purchase seats up behind the basket if they aren't going to be filled.

I would just like to know why our road and msg fans are so much louder
smaller playing arenas
if they travel, they are die hard - otherwise it is their one chance to see the team
mic placement

You should've seen it during the starting lineups when there were three full empty sections up there with maybe 100 students clustered near the railing. With about 17:00 to play, ushers allowed fans in 301 to move over to 302, leaving only two student sections mostly empty.

Mike Veley can yap all he wants about "log onto Facebook and vote Syracuse for top student section in the country." Diehards were there today. 2,000 of their classmates left very conspicuous seats empty. Sure reinforces the stereotype of Syracuse spectators only turning out for "event" games.

I think it more reinforces that SU students have too good of a time on Friday nights and don't get up on Saturday. I can remember this being true for a lot of games when I was in college regardless of how good the opponent's record was.

The University and the Dome know how many student season ticket-holders there are and how many other students have bought tickets. I've never seen it look so bare for a big game with other seats sold around it. It was definitely odd.

The Notre Dame game in 2003 was pretty empty up top, but I can't remember it looking this bare since the UCLA game in 2000 (we were 19-2 and coming off our first two losses). I think that was a 1:00 p.m. game, too.

People were talking about this being a rush weekend, but still. One would think students would show for the basketball game.

On a positive note, Gumby was in the 100-level stands in very non-employee spirits. He seemed to be well-received.
