See ya, Clemson

If Ohio State beats Michigan the Big Ten is getting 2 teams in the playoffs. If Michigan beats Ohio State then the Big Ten gets 1 team.
Alabama is in.
Clemson wins out in.
Ohio State beats Michigan and Penn State/Wisconsin winner is in.

this is pretty absolute. Its college football and humans ranking teams so once you think you have all the answers, the college football world decides to change the question to make it interesting. You are correct that a second big ten team could sneak in since pac 12 is out of the mix. there will likely be 1 sec,1 acc,1 big ten and 1 spot open for 2nd big ten,2nd acc or oklahoma

It is a freaking opinion. How is it absolute? It is what I think it doesn't make it a fact. Please stop with the thought police.

I guess there's no argument if you describe to "H2H or Adios". But if you're ever going to be open to any nuance - the parlay of the H2H game being Clemson, and as close as it was, and that a fluke missed cheap shot saved them from another home loss - the case for L'ville is pretty easy imo. I'd probably have Clemson ahead of Washington tho.

I'm open to nuance.

Overall SOS: Louisville 64, Clemson 30
Record vs. Top 10 teams: Louisville 0-1, Clemson 2-0
Record vs. Top 30 teams: Louisville 1-1, Clemson 3-0

And if you're going to count Clemson's near win against NC State against them, then you have to factor in Louisville's near win against a worse Virginia team.

I see it like this by the committee this week.
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Michigan
5. Louisville
6. Wisconsin
7. Penn State
8. Washington
9. Oklahoma
10. West Virginia

Agreed -- that looks right to me.

Nature abhors perfection.

An election decided by popular vote...Naaaahhh...

Four undefeated teams play for the national championship. Naaahhhh...

I'm watching ESPN Sports Reporters where they had a discussion much like the above posts. Then one of them said "I wish we had the old system where Michigan would be out of it now. I think it makes the regular season less interesting. " :bang:

Later they had a panel discussion and most of them were against extending the playoff to 8 games. Reason: academics, too many games, makes the regular season meaningless, etc. The same arguments we heard against extending it to 4. :bat:

Your a good poster but man you are a whiner admitting your wrong isn't that hard

I am whiner no doubt but confusing my opinion with a fact is not what I do. I post in strong language. I get plenty wrong but just because I say my
Opinion forcibly doesn't mean I think it's a fact. I tend to post links if I am Posting a fact.

I guess that's fair. Like I said I'd have 'em both in with OSU-Michigan winner. My Clemson skeptisism aside cheduling and winning @Auburn should count for something. The fact that Ohio St would be in the same position if they had played Idaho at home instead of @Oklahoma (and they'd be out if they lost @OU in overtime) sorta proves the Ryen Russillo point that asks "why does anyone play anybody?"

I think it's eventually going to shake out as:
1) Alabama
2) Michigan/Ohio State
3) Clemson
4) Washington

An interesting scenario is if Ohio State beats Michigan. 2-loss Michigan would be out of the playoff picture, but Ohio State wouldn't win their division, Penn State would.

So let's say a 2-loss Penn State team wins the Big Ten. Do they get a playoff spot over a 1-loss Ohio State team whom they beat?

I don't think so. If they did, they'd have as much success as MSU did last year.

Penn State is an 8-4 team in a wolf's clothing, just like MSU was.

Penn st doesn't belong in the playoffs. Here is my question for the committee. Assuming Osu beats Mich, putting Penn st in the title game. That would but Bama,Osu, and Clemson in providing them keep winning. Do you take a two loss big ten champ over Lville?

New playoff rankings:

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Michigan
4. Clemson
5. Louisville
6. Washington

Clemson is in a great position even with their loss to Pitt. If they win out, they are a lock.

Nope, never OSU goes, and the question would be the ville or Washington

Best thing about this is that Michigan has to play OSU still, meaning that one of them will be out of the running after that game and it will be...

Bama
OSU or Michigan
Clemson
Louisville

As long as Louisville wins out, I think they'll find a spot for them. It's a TV show, and they won't want to leave out the most electrifying man in college football.

That's how I'd rank them. Popcorn and soda

Knowing how the committee works, if its a close game, i could see then keeping both in

You would have Penn St AND OSU in the playoff with Bama and probably Clemson

If Ohio state beats Michigan..,, does Louisville jump them?

Nope. L'ville needs a lot of help to get into the playoff.

If Ohio St beats Mich what it does is bring Wisconsin and Penn St into the picture.

Because then Penn St wins their division. Ohio St ends the year with 1 loss, no Big 10 title game to slip up in cause they are OUT of that, and OSU has then LOCKED UP a playoff spot. Then the winner of Penn St and Wisconsin in the Big 10 title game will get a playoff spot along side OSU. Throw in Bama as a playoff team as well. 3 of the 4 playoff teams right there.

So if Clemson wins out they are in the playoff. If they slip up and lose, then Washington (as long as they win out) are in the playoff at that point. L'ville is still out. IF both Clemson and Washington lose again THEN and ONLY THEN can you bring L'ville into the conversation.
