Semantics

Who wants it more or you got to want it, drives me nuts.

An old forum I posted on invented the highly analytical terms WIM (wanting it more) and WIL (wanting it less).

Kobe had very high WIM.

The Chargers organization has high WIL.

Why is it called Ovaltine. Its round the jar is round. The mug is round. It should be called Roundtine.
Because geometrically, a circle is a subset of an ellipse (oval).

Same reason we drive on the parkway and park on the driveway.

Yeah…”he wanted it more” always annoyed me. In high school, the QB dated the girl whose locker was next to mine. She went on to be a professional model. I can say with absolute certainty the QB did not “want it more” than me.

That I had absolutely no ability to achieve what I wanted is entirely different than “not wanting it”.

"Getting downhill" every time someone drives always cracks me up. I've never seen a basketball court with hills, either up or down.
On Geddes Street in Syracuse
They have leveled since. But when the school first opened the outside courts were up and downhill

As far as basketball,

I don't get when someone says after a loss they need to reach down to work harder, like 120% or even 150%, implying they already gave 100%. If you are really able to give 150%, that means your 100% was really 66.67%, that means you are a lazy bump.

I also don't get when someone praises another player saying "he plays (or shoots, or defends, or rebounds) just as well as anybody else"...that makes no sense to me, "anybody else" to me is any random person, or any average player, so that's just someone who is average nothing special and yet it is often being used to refer to "one of the best" as in "Steph Curry can shoot as well as anybody else" or "Dennis Rodman can rebound as well as anybody else".
