This morning I started searching for a way to distract myself from the pain of last nights loss and the ensuing airing of grievances and the minute examination of all the flaws of our coaches, players alums and their parents. Inspired by SWC's recent post on the Ides of March and the excellent research it contained, I decided to spend a little time on the way back machine to find what internet message boards had to say about some well known historical athletes/ coaches and other common sports topics. Here are some of my favorite examples of my theory that the names and players may change, but the anonymouse fans stay the same:

From NY_Yankees_Enthusiasts.com March 30,1920. Thread title: "Really Excited about George Ruth's Potential as a hitter"
Poster: FlatBush_4Ever
"What made him special in Boston was his hitting as a pitcher. He'll be just another player as an everyday outfielder. his power numbers last year were an outlier. No one will ever hit 29 home runs again. In order for us to win we need him to do more. More stolen bases and more sacrifice bunts would be a good start. There's a reason Boston has all those championships and we dont"

From BostonRedSoxFans.com. July 15, 1941. Thread title: "Williams leaves a lot to be desired as a hitter"
Poster:
"I don't know why everyone is so excited about Williams going 2-5 again today. He was 0-1 with runners in scoring postion, and eventually teams are gonna figure out he Never.Goes.Opposite.Field."

From our own SyracuseFan.com September 30th 1956. Thread title: "Brown"
Poster: SunnyCrest
"I am probably one of Jim Brown's biggest supporters, but he needs to do more than just run the ball. We need him to be a vocal leader. Be nice if every once in a while he showed a little emotion after a good run instead of just getting up and walking back to the huddle. I just wonder if he is even fully engaged sometimes."

From the TarPit. March 30th 1982. Thread title: "We didn't win. Georgetown lost"
Poster: RPetty43
"This is the luckiest championship in the history of basketball. If Brown doesn't throw that ball away there's no way we would have stopped them on that possession. And how lucky was it that Jordan even hit that shot? I don't even understand why we have a freshman on the floor during crunchtime. Dean Smith is one of the worst game coaches I have ever seen."

And Finally, From the Boneyard March 12.2013. Thread title "New Rumor Re: SEC"
Poster: WestHartHusk

"I am sorry to start another thread, but gotta keep the mojo rising. This from a RU fan stating that SEC Executives looking at UNC, Duke, UVA, UConn - numbers are off the charts. Linky.
The ball is rolling fellas - let's keep this going. Warfare between the ACC, B1G and SEC with UConn in play - love it."

Oh, wait. This one is real??? Talk about delusional fanbases. .

Sounds perfectly plausible until you factor in Oklahoma's impending move to the B1G, which throws the whole thing out the window.
