'We're giving everybody rides': Utah football players get free trucks
Utah Utes football players had no idea they were in for a treat during a team meeting on Wednesday.
Yes. It says that in the article. Now you see what Dino is up against.who pays for the insurance on those? is the NIL paying for that as well?
Though I realize now a dealership isn’t named so it’s say 750k for the collective every year in lease expenses. Maybe offset by a sponsoring dealership.Half million a year marketing expense for the dealership. Before insurance I’m sure. Probably not that crazy given what they spend on TV. Probably will get more return on it. Think it’s smart by the local dealership.
Turning Stone has been on the clock for 20 years, if they haven't done it by now, they wont be doing it at all. Maybe if the school was on nation territoryMicron and Turning Stone are on the clock.
But then Shrader wouldn't have teammates broken down cars to work on in his spare time. They are given to them as a lease for only one year. So not entirely worth the full $43K x 85 players. And they contain advertising on them. Still an interesting concept. Get 85 players to drive these around and advertise for you. Get truck back next year and lease it out or sell it to a real customer and virtually full price because there won't be many miles on these.
Maybe the school has taken the wrong approach?Turning Stone has been on the clock for 20 years, if they haven't done it by now, they wont be doing it at all. Maybe if the school was on nation territory
Can we do that? Or at least put the dome off the tax rolls?Maybe if the school was on nation territory
And yet somehow they made rose bowl last year and ranked 16 this year. Because they have a coach who knows how to coachAnd this is Utah - hardly a football factory.
Whittingham has the benefit of being able to recruit from California, Texas, and the Midwest along with out in the Pacific. When they go to the Big 12, they'll have access to more talent. Talent makes up for coaching. New York is talent barren. You knew that though. And yet somehow they made rose bowl last year and ranked 16 this year. Because they have a coach who knows how to coach

Utah can recruit California, Texas, and the “Midwest”……but Syracuse can only recruit NY?Whittingham has the benefit of being able to recruit from California, Texas, and the Midwest along with out in the Pacific. Agree. I think the dollars make a lot of sense with the sponsor offsetting some of the cost. And since they were the first to do it, they’re getting free press out of it. We should be experimenting with creative approaches like this. They are given to them as a lease for only one year. So not entirely worth the full $43K x 85 players. But utah is what, their 6th choice for some of those players ? Not arguing just staying you have so many other schools to choose from and yet he’s still getting players to be top 20 and successfulWhittingham has the benefit of being able to recruit from California, Texas, and the Midwest along with out in the Pacific. Utah has gone to 2 consecutive Rose Bowls. Their 2022 class was ranked 30th and the 2023 class was ranked 20th - 1st ever top 25 ranking for Utah. The '23 class was 3rd in the PAC behind Oregon and USC. They are changing the narrative because they are winning. I'm sure the truck leases help. But utah is what, their 6th choice for some of those players ?
