Today Casullo was ranting and raving about how BC is paying 2.5 and UConn is paying 2.3 and Babers is probably only making 1.5 because SU is so cheap. He said SU is a stepping stone job and that he's leaving as soon as he gets ANY other job offer because SU won't pay. It honestly sounded like he had been drinking.

I agree that SU will have to figure out how to pay more if Dino becomes a hot commodity. I really really want Babers to retire here. I also wish Steve and Sal would have called him out on his ridiculous statements. One of them should have interjected just to let him know that Babers is making 2.5. He was yelling and bullying them and they acted like the refs in the Pitt-VT game last night.

I don't think he had been drinking but he most definitely was projecting his own experiences with Marrone, Coach P, etc. on what is happening now on the Hill. It's pretty common knowledge that Marrone was upset with the budget he had to work with and I'm sure he shared some of that info with his staff when raises were discussed.

If our ceiling is paying Coach Babers $2.5-3M then there are plenty of other schools capable of outbidding us for his services. We just have to hope that the other factors are in our favor- things like a better chance to get to the Playoffs at Syracuse vs X school, a better chance to showcase his offensive style at Syracuse vs X school, that he genuinely likes being here vs picking up and moving again.

I spoke to someone who works in the athletic department at BC and they're worried that they won't fire Addazio because the budget for a new coach would be 1.8 to 2 million based on what they still owe him.

Oh I definitely agree with that. It's annoying because it's a whole new regime up there and he's talking like they aren't paying or supporting Dino and won't pay Dino, yet he really has no idea. Many people that hear that probably think he knows what he's talking about and the school just doesn't care about football. If the school doesn't care then why should the casual fan?

It's like having Dan Quayle calling into a weekly show to talk about the inner workings of the Obama administration.

If it were one dumb Bud article,i wouldn't have started this. Both talk shows this morning brought it up. I never said I thought it would happen. I believe I said I'm tired of EVERY local media guy bringing it up every time we win a game.

He's a farking idiot and there's a reason he was fired mid season. Guy seems to still hold a grudge - first he made fun of this offense and thought it wouldn't work. Now it's starting to work and Dino is gone.

Oh, and BTW, Dino is making much more than what Casullo PROBABLY thought he was..."

The great thing about being a private university is NO ONE other than Syverud, Babers, Wildhack and a few admin folks know exactly what Babers is making. So, knowing that, I'm going to speculate just like Bud, Casullo and some posters in this thread are doing. He's making $10M/year! We're safe...for now...
 
Look, Babers took this job dispite the counsel of others... Except Art Briles. Now I know Baylor and SU are apples and oranges (pun intended) and I know Briles is a huge scum bag now but there are paralleles that can be drawn here. Baylor was a DUMP before Briles showed up, kind of (emphasis on kind of) like Syracuse was before Babers. Briles turned them around and stuck with them (I'm assuming others tried to poach Briles as well) until he went full scumbag and got kicked out. I think, to an extent, that is what Babers hopes to achieve. If he turns us around and makes us a legit team, Syracuse has a lot to offer. A good team, with an explosive offense, and a packed dome... We will be okay.

That said, we do have a lot in place to keep him. We all know what those things are (indoor facility, new Dome, ACC membership, strong/great AD). That's enticing.

In addition to all of that, I have to think that Dino is going to want to see what his program looks like with his own players. He'll want to reap the benefits of 3-4 years of player development/of having his own kids. He has not reached that stage yet in his career, either at EIU or BGSU.

I mean, how many cakes can you bake before you want to enjoy a piece? I think he sticks with us for 5-6 years, if not more. Note this is all conjecture on my part, but I just am not of the mindset that he is packing a box on his way homer every night.

Totally agree, Dino's first p5 job at age 57, is it ? facilities upgrade including a new look atrium style dome. word around the campfire is the mrs. loves the area. i like our future :)

#1: How many times has Dino made reference to being IN SYRACUSE in year 2 and 3. I have seriously lost count. And STILL the hand wringing? I think his statements have made a particular portion of the fan base even MORE paranoid.

#2: He stated off the bat that Syracuse wrote a VERY GOOD contract and fans should put all this leaving early speculation to rest. HIS OWN WORDS

#3: HE ALREADY WAS OFFERED MORE MONEY TO GO ELSEWHERE!!! And he didn't. He chose Syracuse knowing what he was getting paid

#4: Reading 1-3 again and let it all sink in. I'm talking to EVERYONE in Orange Nation
