SERIOUSLY-Will we ever be relevant again?

The great thing about being a private university is NO ONE other than Syverud, Babers, Wildhack and a few admin folks know exactly what Babers is making. So, knowing that, I'm going to speculate just like Bud, Casullo and some posters in this thread are doing. He's making $10M/year! We're safe...for now...

CFB Coaches Salaries

Courtesy of XO - reported as $2.5 million. My sources told me $2.4 million. I am extremely confident it's somewhere between $2.4 - $2.5 million. A top 50 HC college football salary. It's exactly what he is worth today. If he gets us ranked in the top 25 in both standings & recruiting, the money needs to go to $4 million or a consistent top 25 team will come knocking and pay him what he's worth. And I have full faith in DFB we will be ranked in year three if not by year 2...all the pieces are there especially with the experience on both the OL & DL and ED as a senior.

I also understand that the contract is ironclad (Coyle & Sevyrud get credit here) for the first 3 years...have faith in Wildhack as he knows that he has a strategic asset in the media darling called Dino Babers. I have to believe he will fight hard to keep him...Wildhack knows how to sell this to the BoT & Chancellor and it's helps immensely that Tirico is now on the BoT. I have a lot of faith in the future of SU football even if we don't have complete evidence yet!

Ish - Dino is 55 and is still young enough to go elsewhere about 1 more time.

I know. I was making light of the fact that we have all these numbers floating around, leading to all kinds of speculation. Hell, it's even worse at some other team's sites, which believe he's only getting $1 - 1.2M/year.

One of the often overlooked reasons why Dino Babers was the perfect choice for SU HC is that, while his style of football is perfect for our situation (ACC competitive styles, domed home field, recruiting challenges, etc.), it is very unlikely to make him a hot commodity for NFL HC or OC jobs. That virtually eliminates 32-64 of the potential $3-4 million suitors that will come calling. So you only have to play defense against perennial top-25 programs that would lure him away. Add in that we have the money and facilities improvements in place to keep him happy and well-compensated.

I wouldn't be surprised if 7 wins and a bowl game next year results in an 3-4 year extension with a $1 million raise. He's a college football coaching unicorn.

Look, Babers took this job dispite the counsel of others... If he turns us around and makes us a legit team, Syracuse has a lot to offer. A good team, with an explosive offense, and a packed dome... We will be okay.

I think that Babers is at the point in his career where he can see himself coaching here for 10 years, becoming a legend by restoring by our program (and is well aware of our history), and you can get to the championship playoffs if you can win in the ACC. Playing in a Dome is not something that many other programs (any?) can offer. It suits his system perfectly.

Now, on the downside, the biggest issue is going to be fan support. If we don't get the attendance back up to 45,000+, we're not going to have the budget to pay the assistants what we'll need to pay them. To me, that will be the number one stumbling block - fan support, or lack of it, especially once this systems really starts kicking in a couple years from now.

The second impediment I see is the ACC division break-down. That has to be rejiggered within the next few years. You can't have the three best programs all in the same division. It's insane. It will be harder to break through with Clemson, Florida State and Louisville all in our division. If we were on the other side of the bracket, getting to an ACC championship game would be SO much easier.

I think he wants to see what he can accomplish in a perfect environment with four or five recruiting cycles to build it out

A couple of things.
* when we win 40k plus a game happens.
* the administration is 100% committed to football succeeding.
*the dome is going to become one of the best venues in all of college sports.
*ACC Network
*Most Media Savy AD in collegiate sports.
*plenty of capital to retain this staff or hire another extremely capable one.

All these posts and not one mention of Wildhack. Our AD is an ace-in-the-hole. He gets it, and Babers knows he gets it. Babers will get what he needs HERE.

Dino isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He has a program to build. He can be legendary here. LEGENDARY. Should he succeed, he will be The Man in this town. He isn't going to get the boatloads of 5* recruits here, but he doesn't need them. He needs kids that will fit his system, and after what ET has done this season, and the fact our RB position is open for tryout, we should start to see some highly skilled guys wanting to play here.

Oh, people will come, Ray. People will most certainly come.

Preach on, Moonlight Graham.

Excuse me I mention Wildhack not only once but twice (see/read post #51)...

Easy on Dcuse...one of the biggest most dedicated fans on this board, gotta stand by my friend here.

Legendary...and if this comes to fruition, it will be STATUE worthy. ;-)

Thanks buddy. Just trying to rile people up. People here are among thee most passionate and intelligent(with a few exceptions) fans on the planet. Don't mind being attacked by them.

What are the constellations telling you about Clemson ?

We lose but we see the difference between the HCSS and HCDB team. We no longer look like a train wreck losing to Clemson. Granted, we didn't look awful last year. But last year was at home. I think this FSU matchup is going to be a lot more winnable than people think.

That being said, NC St. is the most important game of the year for us.

Wait. Are you seriously thinking it's possible based on one stupid Bud article? I am not the least concerned. In fact, I will lay money on Babers being here through his third year, then a contract extension is given to him.
It's Pud.

Not sure where this is coming from , i have been on a 2 week high .
