Red can recruit and he hasn't had a decent amount of NIL granted what he did get he blew on Dry Rub and a Smurf. Still with Team social Melo coming next year things will change. The worst thing we could do at this point is fire Red. If we do, we are cooked.

Hold up, Carlos got NIL money?

I'm sure they all get a lil' something.
No offense to Carlos (I am sure it would be found offensive), but playing for Syracuse should be enough. It's been discussed ad nauseam, but Red's philosophy of "playing fast" and playing aggressive man to man defense, how does Eddie fit in? Why did we go all in on Eddie? I have nothing against him, but he single handedly changes the entire philosophy. What is the direction?

Uhm... northeast?

I get what you're saying about Carlos, but if a guy like Carlos is offered $0 from Syracuse and $75k from a program like BC, 9 times out of 10 he's going to take the money.

Look at Leffew rejecting $400k (I think that was the number but can't remember) to START at Syracuse in order to make $600k to come off the bench at Georgia, which has no basketball history. That was purely financially motivated.

The portal is an auction. And auctions go to the highest bidder. And we damaged our brand too much to counteract that.

At least we got Jyare for free room and board

If he did I’ll send him $44 thru a nil collective. Would be a crime if he got a bagel.

So silly and outdated. It’s that type of thinking that continuously leaves SU behind other schools in facilities, NIL, etc.
How about leaving in the context? It was with regard to Carlos. For a player like him, playing like Syracuse should be enough. Do you disagree with that?

Lol the context changes nothing, I disagree with that.

Hindsight is 20/20, and these kids should still be getting paid for the revenue/marketing they bring to the university. No one is saying he should be getting $1m a year but he should be getting something.

What are you talking about, the context is everything here. I was talking about a specific player not in general. I have no issue with players getting paid, but if there is limited funds to go around, I would prefer that the more valuable players get the great majority and some get none.

"Some get none" is not something that works in the real world. If everyone got a raise at your job except for you, are you going to work harder over that next year? You'd probably look for a new job.

Once again, hindsight is 20/20.

The base is a free education. There isn't anything wrong with that. Carlos should never have been anything more than a backup PG. With limited NIL, I wouldn't pay Carlos anything. He is taking a step up coming to Syracuse, there is his raise.

Edit: I'm not following the "hindsight is 20/20" reference. You mean because Carlos has proven to be a subpar ACC PG? He was always that, I didn't expect anything more from him.

...If we paid Carlos nothing...he would not have come here in the first place.

"Free education" is not the base. Completely ridiculous.

And yes, I don't think anyone was saying to give Carlos ACC starting PG money, but he deserves something. Saying now after his start to the season that he deserves no money whatsoever is laughable.

Are you saying the 13th or 15th player on a team deserves anything beyond a free education? And no, I am not saying that is what Carlos is, but honestly, that's what he would be if we had a decent roster. I would have said it before the season started.

"Carlos, we want to have you aboard, but since a roster that is up to our standards would have you as more like the 13th or 15th guy we are thinking of paying you as much as we would pay a guy that far down the bench, which is nothing, even though you will be more like our 6th man at worst next season. I understand that there are hundreds of other schools that would pay you some money, but- he-... hello?...Joquan?"
