Class of 2025 SF Sadiq White (NC / IMG) COMMITTED & SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (5/29/24)

Pretty interesting that one of our recruits can see past the negativity of the board to believe in the coach that recruited him. I listened to a recent) podcast (before I dropped him) from a former board poster who started out recognizing that Syracuse has just won 2 ACC games and then casted shade whether the listeners would support the HC removal if he started to lose more games.

Surprising that a highly recruit committed to the school has more faith and loyalty to the Head Coach than “fans” who at the time were calling for the removal of the HC when he was 7-7 at the time. Vicious fans.

Even if the writing is on the wall, isn’t it better to show support and root for your team to win (even in a perceived down year) instead of casting negativity that could influence committed recruits to change their mind about their commitments.

Alternatively, keep up the negative comments and remove the HC and have the recruits that commit to play for him at Syracuse go elsewhere.
This is honorable, but the truth is the fans showing displeasure and not buying tickets is the only way to make SU deliver a winning product now. If support didn't wane, we would be forced to watch a horrible product for much longer. I'm was already tired of being irrelevant, and now we're a legit bottom dweller. So by all means, fans, don't buy tickets and let it be known we won't stand for it.

PS - This isn't lack of support in a "perceived down year" as you say above -- it's lack of support because we don't think the staff is capable of consistently having up years.

Sadiq has tremendous speed and athleticism. He's definitely more of a PF to me for now because of his jumper.

Timing of that article is interesting and White is a plus plus athlete, but his shot is something that requires attention.
Sadiq White is a player that has good offensive skills and better defensive skills. From the times I have seen him play, he has shown leadership skills and the ability to go hard on both ends of the court.

He is not a player that needs to have the ball in his hands but a player that can make things happen with or without the ball.

He is not an outside shooter (don’t look at him to shoot and make 3s) but do look at him to score inside. He is a very good rebounder. He is an intelligent player that realizes it is a team sport and he does not have be the one who scores all the points.

When he is not in the game, he is an avid supporter (offering encouragement; and praise) of his team that is on the court.

I noticed from the board that it is easy to nitpick a player’s (high school or young college) flaws. Players will get better through practice and game experience. White is a player that you want on your team because he goes all out when he is in the game.

Your points are valid but instead of tearing down (and Im not saying you have or are) your team, we need to applaud the efforts when they are playing good.

I’m saying over the past year(s), we have broken (player transition) down the team (4-5 players returned from the previous year) and basically started over with players from the portal. If we continued this pattern by firing the coach and rebuilding from the portal, they is no guarantee that the players replacing these will have the continuity to play together with the new players.

I feel it that it is easier to bring new players in an established team than into one that constantly is undergoing changes as long as the players are able to play together. Understand that Red has bought in 6 new players last year and will probably bring up to six new players next year.

If you bring a new coach in, he may have to bring in 8-10 new players (because of attrition and additional departures of players that came here because of Red and his staff) and run into the same concerns of mixing different talent into playing together. If unsuccessful within 2 years, you repeat the process of getting new a new coach and new players again. I feel like NIL and the portal will eventually kill college basketball.

I'm optimistic at times that Red will do better next year with upgraded talent. If he is given one more year to do better or be fired, there is no excuse IF he has the following 9 CORE players.

Returning: JJ, Freeman, Moore, Petar.
Incoming Freshmen: White, Kiyan and Fennell.
Portal: P5 Conference Center and Point Guard.

For a good chance of success, it is critical that we get the 2 portal players noted above as they will be core players. The P5 portal PG can handle the point with an inexperienced Fennell along with JJ if necessary.

The non-core alternate bench players would be head case Bell, if he doesn't transfer and can accept a limited role; Womack if he is ready to contribute; and Westry if not still injured and not experiencing non-basketball related issues.

We would also need at least 2 or 3 more portal players to fill out this group as there are question marks with the aforementioned guys. Hopefully they will come from the P5, but more likely mid-majors and with lower expectations and in highly selective bench roles.

Building this roster is doable, but if we are not able to recruit 2 P5 conference core players, this is an indictment on our ability to recruit. We now supposedly have assistant coaches who were hired due to being strong recruiters with great connections and relationships along with a good GM and decent NIL.

College is supposed to be a training ground for young players to develop. That is why coaching is important. A player shouldn't come in to any program and leave without improvement both offensively and defensively.

What part about our current coaching staff fits what you just typed?
