Sure, that's a factor. I struggle with the need to disparage the kids effort and accomplishments. There will be plenty of time for that should Doty underperform playing against ACC talent.

I don't expect him to be a star, all he needs to be is serviceable, score a bit pass a bit, and play good defense.
There’s 1800 players in the portal and he’s ranked in the top 80 in two services. If he wasn’t a local and went anywhere but Siena people would be happy with this pickup. There’s zero difference in taking him than taking Wilkins who also played in a weak league.

He is a smart, athletic, tall, strong kid a good rebounder. A majority of rebounding is intuition, using your body to position. For example Chris Bell could jump out of the gym in the ACC but……

How is it a waste? The people that produce the product that makes universities billions of dollars are finally getting a share of it, for the first time, ever. The kids, who were tethered to a school and a coach for 4- 5 years because they were punished if they wanted to change schools, no matter the reason. If schools are hurting, pay the coaches less and reduce the staffs. Reduce travel expenses by playing in more geographically aligned conferences. For basketball, why not have men and women play double headers for conference games? Players getting paid is the least of the issues.

Oh, I agree with this. Revenue sharing should be just that... But the post I was responding to was objecting to the amount a kid like Doty was offered.

ESPN is big on ignoring the game so they can show reaction shots. They miss important plays frequently because they want to show a player giving high fives, or even fans celebrating in the stands.
MAAC games are produced in house by the school. Camera just out of place as the steals were truly out of nowhere. Siena broadcasts are better than lots of other schools. If you want to see some truly bad broadcasting put on a Mount Saint Marys, Canisius or Niagara game.

key phrase here is "better" - the way the league is there aren't that many great teams. Teams say - oh like us - give up effort rebounds all the time to smaller players. The two steals in 40 seconds is obviously a one off nit pick.

Many of us have watched basketball for a very long time. I don't even have a comparison for Doty and I'm not sure anyone does. As I posted earlier, if people haven't seen Gavin play then they are in for a treat.
Thanks for the insight. Do you have a sense of how Doty would fare running some point? Not to say he would start there, but 5-10 minutes of spelling our traditional PG (presuming we get one), I’d be reasonably confident with the ball in his hands initiating our offense given his experience in Gerry’s system. Would allow for him and Kiyan or MMM to be on the court together and provide some insurance if Ryan Moesch isn’t up to the task consistently as a freshman (presuming he commits).
