Class of 2024 SG Jalil Bethea (PA) Offered

With NIL being a big factor in recruiting (especially the top level talent),
it would interesting to be able to quantify how large of a potential pot
of donor money is out there for individual schools. It would be difficult
since the level of an individual donor's enthusiasm and what their max $$ might be is
a variable that is tough to quantify.
In some cases the NIL isn't even coming from anyone associated with the school. If Klutch or an AAU program want a kid at a certain school they can be the ones paying. If he goes to Miami that is what I think happened here.

you haven't been here long. You don't know my history. And you may not have noticed once again, the guy you cited was wrong about what he said.

Yeah, as a new poster, I once made the mistake of not taking Dash's info at face value.

Once.

Dasher is like Arby's of Cuse hoops - HE HAS THE DEETS!!!!

Like many top-level recruits, it doesn't come down to a number until it does.

Relationships matter, but so does the size of the 'offer' - in the case of Miami, Klutch & Team Final connections, they can provide both.

FWIW, just traded messages with a national analyst at one of the primary recruiting services ... simply passing along what he said: He thinks it's down to Kansas and Miami.

So basically NIL and blue blood vs crazy "not worth it" NIL deal.

Tough thing for Bethea if that's where this is - Miami could actually suck in 2024. Weak 2023 class- would throw a huge chunk of their NIL at Bethea and then just bringing in Swartz so far for 2024.

That’s wild. I’m truly in shock. Has to be huge NIL money. There’s no other explanation
Sadly it’s business which I totally get, if NIL is equal I think we have a chance if we are way behind then he is gone. Follow the green

I hear ya. Jamie Shaw of On3 just posted an article as well on Jalil. It's VIP - but I'll just say here it mirrors what this other analyst told me earlier today...

And I think Jalil now has the argument he could go make bank playing for a G League team and can leverage that like crazy. When he was ranked 40th he couldn’t do that. Now that he is where he is, sky is the limit if they want him

We are going to need to win at a much higher level, or get a few bigger donors, to compete with Top 5-10 talent.

That's the reality. Thought this one was different but we aren't there yet.

Hell of a player and certainly worth a nice chunk of change but kind of like with Dickinson there has to be a cap at some point. I truly think Miami had two really nice years but will fall back this year and won't have much in the cupboard to play with Bethea of that's where Jalil goes.

Money seems to be talking here. Miami is far from a juggernaut. Nice couple years sure.

Sounds like he would need a hail mary AW NIL offer to stay in this. Maybe with the new collective he gets back involved with recruiting…huge NIL money is the only way we’ll ever be able to land a big fish like this, Jalil Bethea or not.

Anyway hopefully he still stays true and gives the coaches the visit after all the time and energy they’ve put into his recruitment.

Miami fans seem to think 2024 will be a blueblood-esque year and they will have a championship caliber team.

Not surprised they think that. I don't see it. I think this year with swapping Wong for Cleveland they take a step back.

Does anyone know approximately how much NIL money Cuse was pitching to Bethea?

These kids always say how the money isn't a factor, until it's in front of them. I almost wish they would just say it up front instead of playing the "I want to play where I feel at home" card.

It's tough. Even when you are all in on betting on yourself- there is still a lot that can happen during your freshman year at college to the effect that a mostly guaranteed and massive NIL deal is a tough thing to turn down. It's a security blanket that I could never blame a kid for taking if someone is willing to open their pocket book

Just my 0.02 if I were him... if he wasn't coming to Cuse, I'd 100% go to Ignite. You'll get paid, get endorsements, free college if you want it and they are putting a ton of guys into the league. They play against grown men. You'll get to focus on NBA-type development. You'll have plenty of exposure.

All due respect to Kansas and Miami, etc. You'll be better prepared.

I'm obviously biased, but with what we're going with (and, to JB's credit, what he allowed Judah to do last year), I truly think Cuse is a better choice than Kansas or Miami. But I'll never begrudge a kid going to Ignite.

Again, just my 0.02 as a Cuse fan, but also a giant NBA fan.

100 pct with you on this. Just strike while the iron is hot. He blew up over this past year. Take the best offer and run with it.

I think Jordan Miller was the bigger loss.

Correct what I was getting at is they did nothing to replace him. The only real move was bringing in Cleveland for Wong. None of their other new guys are replacements for Miller. They seem to think Poplar is gonna bust out but honestly Wong and Miller made life easy on everyone else.

I'm not blaming them for getting the bag at all. I'm just over the way they say that isn't what they're looking for. It's tiresome.
