That's correct. I talk to national recruiting analysts regularly, who are way more plugged in than me. They all say Syracuse's name is mentioned when Smith's recruitment is discussed, largely due to the SU staff's ties to St. Paul VI and TTO. But other suitors are out in front - Duke, Arkansas, etc.
That's fair. It's been a lame duck staff, yes. And, to be fair, I've had sources inside the program tell me that they think they're in the hunt for certain recruits or out of it for others. So not just positivity spinning, but I get what you're saying, my friend.

Well, I don't think Syracuse has a good chance at this point, or really any chance, because of the team's record and the likelihood that a new staff could be in place next season. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Smitty has never seriously considered Syracuse - he has visited twice, and Coach B has recruited him harder than anyone, going overseas, etc., etc. Plus, Autry used to coach at St. Paul VI. But yeah, at this point, it's probably more about Smith liking the staff as to why SU is in his top 6. FWIW, a national analyst - way more plugged in than me - said yesterday that all 6 schools remain in play. But SU is way down on the list, IMO!

That's not about Red and his assistants giving up. Straughn was in for Jordan Smith last month. It's just the reality of the situation. I wrote about it earlier today. Yeah, I’ll never count out Duke in a recruiting battle but with all of the predictions Arkansas has it looks like he’s heading there as you noted
