SG Kiyan Anthony (NY) COMMITTED & SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (11/15/24)

One thing that everyone should remember here, Kiyan is close with Melo like you can’t believe. I know that’s so captain obvious but they are close close. And Kiyan knows what it would mean to his Dad for him to go to cuse. He knows he would get crazy support from the fans. If Bronny was still at USC I would be worried. But he isn’t. The relationship between Kiyan and Melo will prevail here and get him to cuse
I’m 150 percent confident

My son went to USC undergrad and grad. It is 5 minutes from where the Lakers play. Downtown has become a new place to live with good restaurants. It is a really nice campus. Yes for the alumni base and connections. Syracuse doesn't come close, and I am someone who was involved for years with SU alumni relations in a volunteer position. The light rail (built and opened right after my son graduated) takes you to Culver City and Long beach. Both have a great vibe, restaurants etc. Personally, I have been worried about USC from day 1. Oh, and there is that weather thing...

Yeah it ain’t Santa Barbara
Not sure what any of this means. The campus is not in the ‘best’ parts of LA. But those students aren’t tethered to campus. Malibu, Venice, Santa Monica… are still all close. I lived in Los Feliz, the ‘town’ just east of Hollywood. I didn’t do anything social in Los Feliz. People have cars. They have Uber.

One of my best friends who currently lives in LA and grew up in Miami ended up picking Syracuse over USC. Just my 2 cents, but college kids are more focused on selecting schools based on campus life where we as adults are looking at the entire picture of a place. 18 year olds aren’t picking a place to live permanently.

I know I’m reaching, but USC doesn’t play cool East Coast ACC teams. If he always dreamed of playing Duke or UNC, USC won’t cut it. But he would get to play Nebraska and Penn State. Fun!

Santa Barbara is my favorite town in California. Loved living in San Clemente and Dana Point...but if I could live anywhere it'd be there. It's unreal.
I like Santa Barabara spent a lot of time there as a business partner had a home there while his kids went to Cate.

I loved that big old tree you could walk through. Was spooky one year around halloween.
Oh, and UCSB ain't bad.

I agree with the folks saying Santa Barbara is best place to live, visit, etc in Cali but overall I just don’t get the allure of California in general. I thought about going to UCSB out of high school as I could’ve commuted about 5-10 minutes and stayed at my aunts house whos entire family is alum but I just didn’t see it. I wanted to be closer to home to see family and firneds, to attend my favorite sports teams games, i wanted four seasons, etc. I could see a kid who has prospects of playing big nba pro ball not wanting to go to s big city to play college ball because it’s their last chance to stay away from the mega attention. Political and social standing plays a part for some kids I’d imagine too. Like cusefan said college kids aren’t looking for restaurants, places to live, etc. some kids don’t like the hot and some kids prefer the cold. some kids go to HUGE sec/big10 schools just to go to a big football school. The point is There’s so many factors that play into it, it’s not even close to as black and white as some of y’all making it out or be. He’s choosing a team, a program a school and city Not just a city.

All things aside I’ve never understood the “4 seasons” thing

UCSB is my favorite college hoops team after Cuse. I loved attending games at the Thunder Dome and seeing Gaucho Joe run around like a maniac. Hell, even my favorite band, Toad the Wet Sprocket is from SB. Could someone please explain to me why the hell I'm living in Jersey?!

perfect balance. You don’t get too much cold during the year you don’t get too much hot during the year. That’s what it means for me anyways hahah. More a temp/weather thing than specifically seasons I guess.

When my oldest was first assigned to the naval base in SD, he said he hated it there because the weather never changed.
A year later he changed his tune. Wound up loving SD. So much to do and you don’t have to worry about the weather.

Chances he commits next weekend?
Perhaps if pops makes the trip with him and gets in his ear. Even better, his mom who lives in Brooklyn and seems to be a big fan of the Cuse. Is Niko Ruffin on the current roster? His mother, Angie Martinez and La La Anthony are long time friends.

Spring-Flowers are blooming, golf courses are opening, people gearing up for a nice 8 month stretch. The Masters is the unofficial start of spring.

Sunner-Nothing better in Upstate NY with the great weather, the mountains, the lakes. Saratoga Race Track. Lots of things to see an do.

Fall-my 2nd favorite time of year. College and HS Football, leaves changing, cider donuts, still lots of great golf.

Winter-Syracuse basketball. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling for those who partake. Xmas. NFL and College Football playoffs.

Those are the months I dislike the most (Jan - Mar) mainly because they seem to drag on forever. I can deal with the cold until it hits single digits with a wind chill factor. It never used to bother me until old/older age kicked in.
