Class of 2023 SG/SF Emarquis Jones (NY) Portal from D2

There can be discourse but your statement was overboard is all
Watched a lot of division two basketball. Might know it better than anybody on this board. Can promise you that 13 ppg + some shaky games at d2 level is absolutely a reason for concern when considering a guy for ACC hoops. A lot of 19+ ppg scorers who have come through the ECC, etc translate well to low major, but that’s pretty much the ceiling, given extremely rare exceptions. I have zero concerns with him voicing his concerns about it. Everybody (and I mean everybody) at the collegiate level looks like a serviceable player on a highlight reel.

11th, 12th man I have no problem with if staff sees something there.

I mean it’s pretty obvious to anyone that can count to atleast 10 that this guy at minimum would be the 11th man. We already have 9 guys and are actively looking for a starting center which would be #10. Obviously this kid isn’t gonna be playing quality minutes above anyone else already on this squad outside of I guess Moesch pending on if we get a lead guard ahead of Dual.

Jaylen Wells started at D2 Sonoma State. I personally have played with people who played D1 and D2, the difference in guards isn’t as big as you might think. Bigs are a different story.

Definitely agree. Especially at depth roles. The depth guards at high major + freshman guards at low majors are usually guys who either a) were high level high school scorers or b) had opportunities to play on a big aau circuit.

So many guys sneak through the cracks and go JUCO/NAIA -> high production at D2 -> high production at low major. But those kids have always been 18+ ppg at d2, all conference type players. From experience… 13 ppg with a highlight tape that punches above the production is typically a red flag. But as always, would love to be wrong and have full belief that the staff knows a lot more about the kid than me.

This seems like you add a local NY kid who plays hard and pushes in practice and if a miracle happens and he impresses so be it but it’s more a PWO for hoops than anything.

“Overboard?” Why are you so desperate to police?
In Olympics gymnastics, they delete/ignore the high and low scores. You should try that.

We reachin and desperate ……….. no matter how it gets justified
I would much rather listen to one of the most respected national analysts as it relates to our current class. Certainly not done. Have there been a couple of misses Yes just a couple right. What if they are interested as it relates to a player off the bench if for anything a really nasty practice player. Do you remember Charlie Lockwood? Justify that

Hodgson didn’t even want Enis when he took the PC job
Here's the analogy we didn't want Hodgson, maybe for the same reasons as it relates to character concerning Hodgson not wanting his own player.

This is another guy where the tape screams NBA and then the stats and history don’t connect. Wild divergence. Is he really a lottery ticket or does the staff think more highly of him? Between him and Dual, it still feels like we’d need something more certain.

Oh, wait—he’s not a PG. Another wing?

Well if every post was just a different version of positivity…. That doesn’t make for good discourse
Let’s try it, though! Don’t be so quick to dismiss! You’re very dismissive!

Why does this year feel like we're at a garage sale and last year we were buying from the lot?
The portal prices went up a lot this year. We had to get 10 new players from the portal so not that much money to go around
