Shafer: Eric will get the majority of the reps with the ones. Has done a nice job over 10 days prior to Rhode Island

Previously Dungey would get two reps with the ones now he will get four to six

Shafer on Dungey: it's what we look for in recruiting with that kind of intellect

Shafer says Dungey is strong at reading the field and reading coverages with high intellect

Shafer said George Morris played well after watching the tape. Having McFarlane ready to go this week gives them 3 backs with Fredericks

Shafer on injuries: "all injury updates will be done per ACC policy on Thursday post practice"

Shafer says Dungey is fully capable of running whole offense. Relying on the ground game will depend on opposition rather than inexperience

Shafer: "I feel really good about Eric heading into the Wake Forest game."

Shafer says they have already started the process of a medical waiver for Hunt for a 6th year. Says it'll be in the NCAA's hands

Shafer says Thompson and Raymon are full go in practice this week getting the normal first team reps

Clawson: Syracuse did a great job against us a year ago. They were disruptive and caused turnovers.

Clawson: I've never coached a game in the Carrier Dome. I've watched games there, I watched Michael Jordan in the NCAA Tournament

Clawson: Syracuse is a big game for us early in the ACC on the road. They are an extremely well coached defense. Offense is a unique system.

Thanks Rocco.

It's interesting watching how various coaches react after blow outs. Shafer (at least publicly) is very complimentary of the players and effort. When I was in school, I always responded to constructive criticism - made me push harder. There is always something all of us can do better kind of thing. Boeheim is a master of breaking players down a bit to get more out of them. We are all different though.

It'll be interesting to see the level of effort on Saturday. Will the team be resting on their laurels? Or ready to bite the ass of a bear? Hopefully the latter.

Shafer says early in practice you could see Dungey go through the reads in a quick manner.

Shafer said they saw the mental recognition with Dungey early and then his footwork followed in camp

Shafer on Wake Forest: The play good defense and always have. We'll have our hands full w/ their defense. They have a much improved offense

Shafer praises Wake QB John Wolford. Says he's becoming a very good football player

Shafer calls Wake a well coached football team

Shafer says they don't have the luxury of going into camp with mindset of red shirting specific player. They play who is ready to play now

Shafer said Dungey on his recruiting visit was reciting plays and coverages after watching one practice. Impressed the coaches

I was thinking about Hunt applying for a 6th year. If he is granted it, and Dungey is as good as most of us hope he is, that could become an interesting dynamic.

I fully expect this team will be very ready. This is a tight knit group and they have very good practices recently.
I like it. Onwards and upwards. Never good to start believing the press clippings. All that matters is a focus on the very next play.

Someone should put a sign in the locker room with Clawson's Turning Stone escapades as a reminder.

The defense can also take their #1 ranking and run with it.

If Hunt were smart [and by all accounts, he's an intelligent kid / good student], he'd get himself into grad school ASAP while he's on scholarship.

I hope he gets that sixth year, but I have to imagine that Dungey would be difficult to unseat -- especially if we somehow claw our way to bowl eligibility this year.

Depends on the transfer rules. If Dungey has a good year Hunt might be better off using the grad student transfer and playing somewhere else. If he starts grad school at SU can he still use the free transfer?

Also there is nothing worse than a player or fan QB controversy. If Dungey plays well I think we would be better off with Hunt moving on.

I'd love to see Hunt get a 6th year ... and agree (with RF) that he should get his degree while he's rehabbing. I don't think we need to tell Hunt that it can be just one hit (or incident), and FB might not be there.

Not only that, even if Dungey becomes the QB ... he's already taking way too many hits and .. (you know the rest, don't want to jinx him).

Agree with this. If Dungey performs the way I think he will (1800 yards, 12 TD, 8 INT or so, along with some solid rushing numbers) it'll be difficult to remove him from that starting role as a sophomore, in favor of a 6th year guy who is coming off back to back season ending injuries and hasn't really played football since midway through the 2014 season.

Shafer: QB AJ Long is healthy and working on his mechanics. Appeared to have limitations lifted toward the very end of camp.

Shafer said Dungey's feet have caught up to his mind, impressive for a frosh. Showed in his throws on the run/after turning against URI.

Shafer asked about Hunt's chances of a sixth year: "I really have no idea. I'm not that familiar with the process."

Shafer said he wants to see more big hits from his defense. They had four against URI. The staff likes to see 5+.

Eh, could just be the usual coach paranoia about giving info to the opponent.

And thanks, Rocco!

exactly. which i is why i'm believing Erv is out.

I'm guessing the opposite, seemed very precautionary and no one reported that he was hobbled post-game as far as I know.

Happened to be sitting behind his family on Friday. They had spoke to Erv and said he could have played the rest of the game. Was a precaution. I look for him to be out there Saturday if I had to guess.

That's great.

Of course you may have just Spotwooded the situation. Expect someone to show up at your door soon. ;)
