Shafer should

Your best chance for any of those to happen is #2. Does anyone know how many games the Oline played in as a complete unit? It seems that there was always a couple guys out.

do the following now that this disastrous season is over:
1) Find a new OC
2) Fire Joe Adam and hire an OL coach that has D1 experience
3) Hire a competent special teams coach
4) Tell Nike to shove it and go back to the classic Cuse uniforms
5) Purchase about 30k tickets for the '15 home opener for there may be under 20k vs Rhode Island
6) Stop using the term hardnosed...
Would you give the new OC the option to choose his own assistants?

I'd ditch Reed and hire Rocco Casullo, then have him and Acosta split ST duties.

Would also drop Smith and look for someone younger with more recruiting chops for that spot. The position guys gotta recruit.

If Adam really isn't up to the task then we need to get someone who can develop prospects. Daoust has done a good job with the materials he's given. We need the same kind of guy for the OL.

i love 4 and 6. i am not sure about the oc --i think given the personnel he will be very good

1) Yup. Someone who's run an offense at this level. Is that hotel room still available for Browning?
2) Ditto, although that's the unit that was wiped out by injuries.
3) Yes. Casullo might be available?
4) Love it but not happening.
5) Give them to the guys at Fort Drum.
6) Keep using terms like hardnosed and "We've got to keep fighting" but make decisions that show those characteristics. Stop punting in the other team's territory or when you're two scores down late in the game.

Fire Adams Smith is the first move

Second is to announce that he is going to coach special teams. Hell if Beamer can do it so can HCSS. Hardnosed and rah rah is great for specials.

Last move is to find a top notch coach out of florida because you have to assume that George is gone

who is adams smith?

Mac went 2-9 in his second season. But that 2-9 was different, right? I'm sure nobody felt like we were going back to the Maloney days, right?

'Cause if this board had existed in 1982 , all the internet football geniuses on this board would never have been calling for Mac's head, especially after going 4-6-1 in his first year.

They would all have recognized what a great coach he would be and would have given him a mulligan, right?

He!!, Mac didn't even come from the MAC. He came from a D-II conference. But the board would have overlooked that, right?
This prompts me to ask once again, how are we to tell the difference between coaches that start out poorly and end up well and those that start out poorly and remain that way?

But he should be able to achieve what he wants by invisible hand...

What's really needed during this football recession is Syverud to step in with a Keynesian approach and stabilize the football economy.

You can't.

There are guys who do this for a living: NFL, NBA & MLB GMs who get it wrong all the time and that is their job.

You have to give him enough time to succeed or fail.

If you can't tell the difference then you are stuck with an arbitrary trial period aren't you? How long is that? Who knows how long is enough?

In other words, all you have is your judgment. Saying , "You have to give him enough time to succeed or fail" really isn't shedding any light on the issue. You have to pull the trigger when you have seen enough. It is not easy.

That is correct. It is a judgement call.

But two years is not enough time.

And the injuries were horrendous so I give him a mulligan.

I do like how hard the team plays for him.

But there does need to be improvement, especially on offense and the special teams need to be fixed.

Tons of guys got playing time this year. That should help.

I'm looking for 5-7 or 6-6.

A good season would be 3-1 OOC; 0-4 on the road and 3-1 at home.

He has to recruit more talent. There simply isn't enough of it on the roster.

I agree he deserves another year. The questions are what results warrant keeping him and are their better choices out there?

If we are only 5 - 7 I for one will get off the train.

I could see him keeping his job at 5-7 if the team plays well and scores an upset.

If he continues to lose players from this current recruiting class, his future isn't bright. That will be one key.

We're probably only going to be favored in 4 games so the 5th would have to be an upset. Maybe we can beat BC on the last play of the game and save a man's job. Perhaps carry him off the field.

I miss you SU football. The one I first fell for back in 1991.

As was asked in a previous thread, please list all the D-1 teams that have a dedicated Special Teams coach. And then tell me which position coach you would eliminate to hire a dedicated Special Teams coach.
One way that programs skirt the cap on coaching positions is through expanded support staff. Swinney at Clemson has convinced the University to expand his support staff after comparing our situation to some of the SEC programs. He now has a support staff (including his position coaches) listed at 27 positions.

Support staff is a place where programs can spend money to help attract talented coaches.
