Shafer should

I agree he deserves another year. The questions are what results warrant keeping him and are their better choices out there?

If we are only 5 - 7 I for one will get off the train.

Tough schedule. LSU, Clemson and Florida St. are losses. CMU, South Florida and Rhode Island should be wins.

Our other away games are NC state, Louisville and Virginia. Tough to see a W there and that is 6 losses.

We would then have to beat BC, Wake and Pitt at home to get to 6-6.

Doable but by no means a slam dunk.

People are always way too optimistic, especially about road wins.

5 wins or less and he should be canned. Absolutely no doubt. Bowl or bust.

I don't care who they upset or how hard the team plays. Even at 5-7 that means his three year record would be 15-22.

We fired P for going 16-20, and he did a helluva lot more in his decade prior to that.

I'm not even convinced we should keep him at just 6 wins, but I'm totally convinced that anything less than that and he should be gone.

I doubt anyone is optimistic about next year at this point after going thru that season

As we discuss HCSS's staff..or lack there of, I found it interesting to look back at some of the assistant coaches Syracuse has had over the years:
Tom Coughlin (New York Giants)…..Nick Saban(Yes, that Nick!)…..Dan Mullen(Mississippi State head coach)….Jim Tressel(former Ohio State Coach)…..Steve Adazzio(BC head coach), Randy Edsall( Maryland head coach). Did I leave anyone out?
Jim Tressel, had great success at Ohio State, and was dismissed after a scandal. He is now working in the administration at Youngstown State……wonder if he would be interested in getting back into Big Time Football? He might be a good fit if he has anything left in the tank…..

Oddly enough, even at 16-20, half the fanbase still didn't want Coach P fired.

Pretty sure that 5-7 or worse for Shafer, and his approval rating will be much less than 50%.

If we are writing off NCS, UL and UVA we have no business being in the ACC.

We're probably only going to be favored in 4 games so the 5th would have to be an upset. Maybe we can beat BC on the last play of the game and save a man's job. Perhaps carry him off the field. I miss you SU football. The one I first fell for back in 1991.
wayyyy to early to say nc st won 7 games this season after a horrible year last year, anything can happen in this league it's not the sec west

What a surprise considering you picked us to be 10-2 this year.

We should just show up and beat everyone.

After all, winning on the road is a piece of cake, right?

BTW, there are 11 P5 schools with two losses or less: FSU, Gtech, Baylor, TCU, KSU, OSU, Wisconsin, Oregon, Arizona, Missouri, Alabama..

This is the company you put SU in with your 10-2 prediction.

Tressel to me is the reclamation project the university should take on but won't. I get the reasons why not but we should figure out the whys of bringing him in. Not sure what the cost of a Tressel is but boy he'd seriously make us relevant again very quickly.

You do realize he has a show cause penalty in place until the end of 2016, right? This means any school hiring him would have to "show cause" why it shouldn't be sanctioned for hiring him. In addition, any school hiring him could face severe penalties if he commits any further violations during that time. That's a lot of work for the University to do just to bring him in, not to mention having to pay his salary and the buyout of HCSS, along with pi$$ing off the NCAA. I imagine it has probably happened, but I can't think of a single instance where a school has hired a coach under a show cause penalty.

Because P had a pretty good 10-year run before things went sour.

Tressel is the President of YSU and don't think he wants the stress of coaching in his life anymore. Cuse has had some great assistants in the past but I think we need to go outside the box if Shafer fails again in 2015.

And the injuries were horrendous so I give him a mulligan.
If it were me, I would tell Shafer that next season if he punts from the opponents side of the field he's fired as soon as the pigskin makes contact with the punter's shoe.

With our luck it would be a fumble and a scoop and score.
